Ah, well I'm glad you liked that track from "Three Friends". They have a considerable amount of material that is not in that troubadour style. I think that it would have been good if Three Friends had been your first foray into GG. I actually find quite a lot of variety in the music (ergo Eclectic), some is more hard rock etc..... I might have thought that there'd be tracks that you'd like off various albums at least: say "Nothing at All", "Funny Ways" and the instrumental "Alucard" off the début. Off Acquiring the Taste which I think more avant than other releases, I still might have thought you'd quite like "Plain Truth". Off Octopus a lesser track, but the quite delightful "Dog's Life" and "In a Glass House" off In a Glass House I might have thought would have some appeal. Edited by Logan - June 15 2009 at 12:44 |

Logan and Starti: I want to be honest, I own and heard:
Tried to like them, made a good effort, but hated all, even later bought the expensive box set Giant on the Box, but no it's futile, no matter how hard I try, can't stand their excessive vocal dissonances, I see them as a sort of hybrid between Symphonic and Medieval Troubadouresque Folk, but IMHO they got the worst of both worlds. I have Three Friends somewhere in the boxes (I'm moving very soon) but is cataliogued, I only heard this album but didn't listened it carefully, will give another chance, because that Baroque organ has surprised me.

Matter of taste, of course, and I shouldn't expect it, but is there no Gentle Giant that you like? I would have thought that there would be some appeal, particularly with Three Friends. Does this have no good effect? Edited by Logan - June 15 2009 at 11:31 |

I don't know why Stati di Immaginazione did so little for me -- too ambient for me perhaps? I preferred Dracula Opera Rock. |

They reunited for a reunion gig: http://www.gaudela.net/gryphon/ and there was talk of a new album. http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=56983 And taken from wikipedia:
http://www.myspace.com/gryphonreinstated I would've loved to go to the concert. I wonder what happened with the album? Edited by Logan - June 15 2009 at 09:46 |

A new Genesis album from the classic lineup would be a deception, I foretell: it will feel like getting Liebfraumilch when you expect Château d'Yquem. Exit Genesis.
On a new Pink Floyd album Richard Wright will be sorely missed. Exit Pink Floyd. I would be surprised if ELP would sound as inspired as they did in the first half of the 70's, or if a new Alan Parsons Project album would be worth a listen. Camel has the ability to produce reliable symphonic prog throughout the years, but they released a studio album in 2002. Maybe Comus, Gryphon or Led Zeppelin would give us some surprise, but I tend to expect more from more recent bands, so I don't give a vote... Edited by someone_else - June 15 2009 at 07:33 |

I don't agree about VdGG; their two albums after the reunion were excellent; I especially love the improvisational disk of "Present" (though I am aware I am pretty alone there), but also the composed songs. At first only "Every Bloody Emperor" and "Nutter Alert" stay in the ear, but now I think that "Abandon Ship!" is the best of them; a fantastic song and an amazing self-ironical statement. The staggering rhythm as the "heptagenarians" get behind their desks really makes me laugh. I don't agree about Camel either, but they never have been overwhelming for me in the first place. They lack the necessary bite for me. |
