Topic: RSS Feeds Posted: June 11 2009 at 18:58 |
I'm a heavy internet user and rss feeds "changed my life". I can now get a lot more information and, this is also important, in real time. I get feeds from a lot of sites, which I could never check in the same time I use for checking my feed reader. Instead of browsing over countless sites, I get the new materials in my reader almost instantly when they are posted. Long live RSS feeds! When I started using the feeds, I was using Feedreader, a software similar to an email client. However, it was not a good solution as I could check the reader on only one computer. Now I use Google Reader, which I can access from everywhere; if I mark as read a new material, it stays read from wherever I log in again. Also, another advantage of the Google Reader is that Feedreader had to download everything locally, while Google keeps more of the information on the online storage. However, I don't use feeds for PA. The reviews are not very well adapted as feeds, and I prefer to have a look at the PA homepage instead.

I only use the "new releases" link, when I haven't updated my "grocery list" in a long time.

Yeah, I use them for this site, as well as some others. Very useful to just click the bookmark to get active topics. Mind you, the RSS feed can be swamped with JFF threads, whereas most recent topics on the main forum page omits these recent posts.

I heard good and bad about RSS feeds. Just curious if anyone subscribes to them or if they have any real benefit.
