I've had my JBL LX22s for years and they're great, the model above mine is even better

I have a set of Roland DS-7 refernce monitors that I have been extremely pleased with.  They are self powered (bi-amped with 40w to the lows and 20 watts for the highs) and have 24 bit digital input if you have the gear to connect with.  The sound is crisp and the low end is nice and tight, but not tubby or flabby.  All in all a great set of speakers.  They retailed for around $500.00 when I bought mine about 31/2 years ago.  I've heard they may or may not be out of production (probably replaced by an upgraded version) so you may be able to score a set in your price range on ebay.  You'd never regret having a set of these on the old bookshelf.

I'm in the market for a new speaker setup for my room. I'll be plugging it into an iPod and turntable. I'm no audiophile, but I am after really good quality in my speakers. I don't want to spend over $300. Any ideas for speakers to buy?

And what sort of speakers do you use and do you like them? Thanks
