ProgRadar ... keep an eye on new releases!

Ok, so you guys are more interested in voting for your favorite cereal or whether you prefer Coca Cola or Pepsi than discovering new prog albums. Fine, but why then come to any prog website at all?

I'd suggest a combination of numerals & letters - like 0n0

Well, you can count me in, just added tags for the new Giant Squid.

Question...how do you add band links, country, etc. for albums already added to the database? (e.g Giant Squid)

You're very welcome ... but keep in mind that this service depends on members submitting tags. That's one of the reasons I'm creating this thread. A few PA experts are already participating, and if we can get a few more on board then this could really work nicely.

Heck, I can barely keep up with the stuff i stumble onto. Being fed even more would eliminate the time I'm trying to put on listening to what I got recently (halfway through the 20 used LPs I bought before XMas)

Today I accidentally found a nice new prog album from 2009 ... the band is not (yet) in the archives. A while ago I created a nice RSS feed over at Progfreak.com which I dubbed "ProgRadar":

If you don't know what RSS is you can look it up at wikipedia. In a nutshell it is like a newsletter, just the other way round: Instead of receiving the information on a daily/weekly/etc schedule, with RSS you get a list of the newest items and - using tools like your web browser or dedicated RSS applications/websites - can browse them yourself for changes.

The idea behind ProgRadar is simple: When you come across an interesting new prog release, you submit some tags for the album at Progfreak.com. Submitting progressiveness level and main genre will suffice. If you're the first to submit this info for the album, it will be added to the ProgRadar feed. In turn you can use the feed to discover albums that other users tag as prog. So it's a collaborative thing ... you submit some information, and you receive some information.


Unfortunately currently only a handful of people are using this service. I hope that with this thread a few more people might join in. In order to keep this thread alive, I'll occasionally post some of the albums which I found through the service (or which I added to the feed myself) here.

I'll start with the album I was talking about earlier:

The band (Astra) is not the one which is already in the archives (an Italian Prog Metal band). They're from the US and play an interesting mellow retro/psychedelic/stoner style with lots of mellotron and flute.
