I too like Futurama better than both, although Family Guy by far in this poll.

Both pale in comparison to Futurama, in my opinion. Then again, just about every TV show but the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy miniseries from the 80s does for me

Both are good, but it HAS to go to Family Guy since it was the first.
I mean American Dad is good but it is the exact same show except with political humor. Even the character's on AD aren't really that far different from FG. Edited by JJLehto - June 16 2009 at 21:40 |

Family Guy
American Dad is basically the same with different characters, TBH. |

Family Guy is terrible lately. The shocking/disgusting/dark humor is usually not funny (and I'm a fan of dark humor), many jokes are overextended, and they include tons of filler (one episode had 3 minutes of live-action concert footage, wtf)
In the first two seasons, they had a good balance and some restraint. Offensive jokes, but at least no graphic video of a guy beating his wife to take out his frustration, Peter punching Meg, and so on. One of my favorite early-Family Guy scenes are when they have 'death' in the house, he swallows a chicken leg in a couple of seconds and explained how he can do that with something like "Back then, I've done things I'm not proud of" :D :D Ironically enough, The 2009 Simpsons are bringing quite good entertainment, after 20 years "Eeny Teeny Maya Moe", "Gone Maggie Gone", "How the Test was Won", "No Loan Again". |

This reminds me of the time when someone asked if I liked Seinfeld or Friends. No brainer there (Seinfeld), no brainer here. Family Guy...

I lost a lot of interest in south park when my republican friend told me that the creators are conservative republicans, and I started to realize that virtually every episode started out making fun of the right wing only to ultimately prreach that the left wing is far loonier. At least family guy rarely preaches. And they make fun of everyone, although it's clear their political views are more in line with mine, which I enjoy.

The main character is a big fat white idiot with a scrotum for a chin. What more do you want?? The whole point of the show's humor is to be over the line and laugh at things you aren't supposed to. I agree, sometimes they go way overboard, but that's the nature of the show. Whether it's right or wrong, I don't know. I admit it's funny, although far from being my favorite show. Simpsons at its peak was so much more intelligent...and South Park has its moments of genius as well. Can't say I like American Dad at all...I find Roger extremely annoying. I would still disagree with this. I havent seen every episode of the show, but I havent seen them make fun of: whites, men, atheists, democrats, which would probably be a good description of the writers of the show. It may just be a cartoon, but I think sometimes they go over the line and I would disagree that its ok because they go after everyone |

family guy is my favourite show. American dad has some of the same humor but there are 4 reasons why Family Guy is much better -Stewie, Brian, Peter, and Lois. The only character I really enjoy in American Dad is Roger the alien

Did anyone see last Sunday´s episode? The one about Brian being an atheist? As I´m not an atheist, but I also don´t identify with Christianity that much, I must say I thought it was well made, but the ending was a bit off. One thing is to show Brian as a atheist, which was pretty obvious by then, but the other is to make the whole show end the way it did... it´s not that I was offended or anything, but it definitly did not end on a high note... but I guess you can´t blame it on the show, Peter did worn us it was going to be a Meg show jejeje "Here is the clicker... no one will blame you"

The peak amount of love I have had for Family Guy easily surpasses the peak for American Dad. I occasionally watch American Dad while I have seen every Family Guy episode. Unfortunately this last/current season isn't good at all. I'm not sure if the shock value has worn off, I have matured (highly unlikely ) or if I finally had enough of the recycled jokes, but I would be surprised if I have laughed more than 5 times this entire season.

Right, they don´t attack anything in particular, just whatever they think is wrong, sort of... |

I don't think there's any offence generally intended - they send up all sections of society equally, highlighting flaws whenever they see them, but never cruelly. |

I've seen a couple of American Dad episodes and it is funny but Family Guy is just much funnier to me.
I agree with El Bothy above, I actually find that part of the show to be amusing. I don't take cartoons too seriously anyway. |
