Topic: Small revamp of the "PROG ROCK GUIDES" page Posted: March 16 2009 at 18:02 |
Oh, I didn't say anything about "defining" prog. I just meant "it is so,'cause we say so" !

very true Claude.....but as I alluded to last night.. whoever wins that $100 gift card will EARN it hahha. It can't be narrow.. prog as this site calls it... is massive beast.. which does have to include the many permutations of prog, which the site recognizes which some don't even want to acknowledge. Be it Xover.. or Prog Metal or even Rush being seen as a prog group hahahha.
good luck with this one...

I thought that Slartibartfast said it best - it's not up to the artist to decide what's prog. That's PA's job. SO the definition of prog, by default, is what we here at PA think it is.

It's HENRY. ;-) You do have a good point, but I think Max and the other admins are capable of sorting out which one is best.
Bravo on the contest, by the way, that is an excellent way to get a good response, and I am extremely impressed by your generosity!

I understand the desire to save unnecessary work, but as an independent site, shouldn't we have more to offer for the definition of prog than a copy of the Wikipedia page? Wikipedia also thinks that New/Nu Prog is a genre, and New Age is a derivative of prog, avant-garde, musique concrete, psych, and krautrock. Which is just silly.
Otherwise, good, there are some good posts in Blogs, even though it's rarely updated.

I've made some improvement (I suppose) of the "Prog Rock Guides" page on the main site. List of changes:- Re-sync the definition of "Progressive Rock" based on the updated version at WikiPedia.org
- Add all the BLOG post listed as "related prog rock article"
So ADMIN should take care to clean up/moderate/move (if necess.) theses posts to be sure that we have a list of really related post here.
So the good news is also that BLOG writter will have more and more visibility in the long term since this page is viewed about 10,000 each months.
Please report comments and suggestion here. Max
