Dean's cover. Nice concept and great execution: the colours especially.

Roger Dean's cover. I have it framed and hung in my living room along with "In the Wake of Poseidon" and three others.

Dean's cover. Although I like the US cover as well the octopus featured there appears dead and pickled in contrast to Dean's mighty and alive one.

I think I like the jar one more. Can't really explain why. Maybe it just seems quirkier.
No disrespect to Dean though, I love that guy.

The original is always better. And of course: it's a Roger Dean painting !

My vinyl copy has the Dean version (wow!) abd the CD has the jar thingy which is less stunning!

Both are great, though I think that Dean's dark one, fits pretty well with the music.

Like both. In fact, I knew nothing of the Dean cover until quite some time after having my version.

Just bought the US version on CD because it was mega cheap. $7.99 CAN new. I think he little diver in bottom right hand corner is kind of neat but while Dean`s work is truly artful I think that the American version better reflects some of the lyrical content which was influenced by several notable literary figures as well as the work of a prominent Scottish doctor who wrote on such topics as psychosis. Even though this was probably not the artist`s intention, I would think think that the white cover better reflects the depth of the lyrics and music while Dean`s illustration is just a very sureal and immaginative painting of an aquatic creature.
Also, although the title is a play on this aquatic creature who possesses 8 tentacles what I think it really refers to Octo- Opus is a musical work containing 8 compositions. I might be reading too much into this. Anyone?
