^I. There´s nothing to do with creativity in DM, they just tried to made an album what every Metallica fan will like. But of course there were fans (like me) who again dislike their album (except I have liked all their other albums). I believe after ...And Justice Hardwired has been the first album most of the fans like (believe there are ones who think Metallica should have quit after ...And Justice).

The question is : who can dislike Death Magnetic ??
There’s a certain ‘something’ in DM that I clicked with instantly, unlike most of their other releases.

Seriously I could have voted St. Anger. I truly think Master is their greatest, quite much also nostalgic reasons, but St. Anger is really close in it´s greatness. I truly really liked to know, why Metallica fans hate it, because I have never understood it. I can understand the hate towards black album, load, reload, death magnetic but not St. Anger.

three votes with no explanation is rather suspicious. But anyway...

I listen to plenty of albums others dislike (i.e. 80s Kansas), but with Lulu and St Anger I agree with the majority. Those who like these are the minority. Unique is maybe not the right word. Is "few" better? :)))

In Lulu I understand why majority of Metallica fans don´t like it. It´s too experimental to ordinary Metallica fan. But never understood why St. Anger is so hated. It´s really close the greatness of Justice For All. It was my friend who bought St. Anger and he put it on and said to me "listen how great album they´ve made". Really it hit me hard immediately. It´s really of course very dark & angry and raw album, but anyway, why it is so hated?

I also think Hardwired... is much better than DM.
O.K. There’s some ‘sloppiness’ on Lars’ part for discerning ears, but I think his playing is fine. He’s no Lombardo or Benante. And the production could’ve been more sympathetic towards each player. However, songs like All Nightmare Long and Judas Kiss are amongst my favourites the band has ever done. Even better than the best of the rest.
ALSO, I haven’t heard Hardwired yet...... Am I missing anything ???

if you ask me, you are (missing that is) :))

Their last album took me by surprise. While not a masterpiece, IMO it's their best work since the black album. Production is better, songwriting is better. Just go listen to Spit Out the Bone and get back to me. :))

Lar's drumming is the low point of every Metallica record IMHO. In fact, I'd assert half the reason Metallica is so successful is BECAUSE his beats are simple and easy to follow. This is not a bad thing or a knock at all. It works, clearly.

I haven't listened to anything beyond St. Anger yet.

Then from what I’ve heard of those Load albums, sort of hit and miss.
St. Anger has some good songs, though Lars’ sound is pox.
Lulu was a pile of crap - actually, I’d much prefer Lulu WITHOUT ol’ Lou. Imagine that ; Lulu as an instrumental album ??
So, DM is my pick.

the black album was a disappointment when it came out, for me that is, I still think it's a good album (not great, but good).
The Loads are uneven indeed, but they have some nice moments in there.
St Anger and Lulu  - I dislike both.

DM was decent, but nothing special IMO.

The last one is surprisingly good, I just never thought Metallica would deliver and they did. :)

For years it was Ride The Lightning for me, but the verdict is in........
DEATH MAGNETIC !!!!!! From here on out, I doubt they’ll ever better this one in my books. You can actually hear Trujillo, and Lars is on fire. FANTASTIC album

Well, it´s the album that I think many Metallica fans thought they were betrayed. I loved it immediately when it came and still love it! My favourite Metallica albums are:
1. Master of Puppets
2. ...And Justice For All
3. Metallica
4. St. Anger

Like all the other albums too, Death Magnetic is the only album I can´t listen.

wait... you'd rather listen to St Anger than Kill'em All?
Oh Christ, this again...among Metallica fans you seemed not can like St. Anger. I have thought in the first moment I´ve heard it it´s great album. Really I think they did with it a lot better job as in Load or Reload, it has lots in common with Justice for all, not least the very dark atmosphere and really rude sounds that I really love! Of course I like a lot also Kill `em all and Ride the Lightning, but I think in those albums they put out their youth energy, in Masters they mature and made after that those other three great albums. But yes, I am also those who likes Lulu and I am not continuing this, because it´s waste of time. If you don´t understand why I like those Metallica-albums, then you don´t.

Only disappointment I have had with Metallica is Death Magnetic, they have told later they had meetings with Rick Rubin where they tried to find out the deepest substance of Metallica. They tried to make an album what fans wanted and you can really hear it in that album.

sorry if my question upset you, it's not my intention, I was surprised by your post.

The youthful energy is the exact reason I enjoy early Metallica.
I agree with what you say about DM, I don't like it that much either, the songs drag a bit. I rarely listen to it.

Sorry if I was too attacking towards you. I have had a lot of s**te towards me in some other forums with that opinion. I guess there are someones who like also Death Magnetic, that´s ok to me.

Really loved specially in the youth age all those four first Metallica albums, we used to watch also a lot "Cliff Em all" when we drank beer. But when I have got older, I have also started to respect calmer things also in music, but of course sometimes it´s fun to put some Metallica on and even mosh (not many times, my neck can´t stand it anymore)!

fukq captcha, I wrote a lot and lost it all. The fact that I always have to save what I write annoys me. I don't know why it did not get posted, it's usually links and emoticons that are the problem but there were none in our posts.

Anyway, I got no problem with people enjoying albums I don't. But I am surprised when reading positive opinions about St Anger and Lulu. That's all. :)
