MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) are not just those crappy sounding files you hear when played through Media Player. If a band has a keys player, chances are they are using midi to enhance their music, especially live. Played through a high end midi synth or dedicated VST unit such as the Roland SonicCell, which I use, these MIDI signals are spot on in sound and quality. In replication quality synth and string sounds are perfect, which is to be expected, as these are generated by a chip nowadays anyway; amazingly drums sound real enough to be drums (though I'm sure every drummer who reads this is shaking their head in disgust). MIDI has come a long way since the original 128 instrument defintion- My Roland unit gives me access to thousands of sounds. Unfortunately for those who have only heard MIDI on a computer you are still stuck with the original and rather limited 128 instrument version. MIDI is a professional tool and being used far more than most people realise- because it sounds like the real thing.

If you've got guitar pro, MIDIs are an awesome way to learn how to play songs.

awesome! everyone thinks i'm crazy for listening to midis...i guess it reminds me of the early 90s when computers didn't have the disk space to store wav's.

Some people find joy in knowledge. Some people find joy in ignorance. Some people just enjoy music.
