They will do both but the CD will not include any extras. The DVD will be in 5.1 I believe. Amazon has both for pre-order. The release date is Oct 13.

Belexes-Lightning's Hand medley could be interesting. All in all I hope they release just an audio cd of it. I hate concert dvds.

A symphonic version of 'Fight Fire With Fire'? Gotta' hear that! 'Cheyenne Anthem' and 'Miracles Out of Nowhere' were no-brainers. Glad to see 'Nobody's Home' finally got some just due - too bad Robby wasn't wielding his fiddle for that one . 'Hold On', 'Peaceful and Warm' and 'On the Other Side' are interesting choices as well. Can't wait to see this one released! |

Looks like I'm going to have to sacrifice a 12 pack for this... ...but it's too bad Robby isn't with them. Although if I had to choose any replacement at all, Ragsdale is IT. |

Here is a teaser of the upcoming DVD they posted on Kansasband. com (Offical Site) It is just Carry on, Dust and Point of Know Return but the qualtity of the picture and sound is tremendous although Dust has and Carry on has Kerry Livgren. Steve Walsh is about as good as it gets these days for a guy with throat surgery being 60. At least he sounds better than Device, Voice Drum:

'Hold On' finds, IMO, its ultimate expression in the orchestral refurbishment recorded for the "Always Never the Same" album, and it becomes even more epic when the y include the fina lsection of 'Peaceful and Warm' in the interlude.
Kind regards.

I agree with you about Rags.
The guy IMO gives a better Classical approach to the band,. but they loose in the unique Country element.

^ Ivan The orchestral set list is different from the regular one they do for a normal concert. They chose those songs to best fit the Orchestra or at least what they think best fits the orchestra. They did about 5-6 shows earlier this year with this set up. Having seen them twice last year (no orchestra shows) Ragsdale is unbelievable. He adds so much to them. I saw them at a beautiful performing arts center in August and it was absolutely the best Kansas show I had seen since 1978. I know that sounds like hype but it was. Rags added stuff all over the set and the band added some really cool bits (not form other songs) in a lot of instrumental passages. Not sure if they will do that for the DVD or play it closer to the vest because of the Orchestra but we shall see. I trying to talk my better half into flying back there for this.
BTW even Hold On is really good because they play part of peaceful and warm in the instrumental break.
Yorxie
The reason DVD had a grainy look is because it was filmed. They didn't use digital for it.
As for Livgren he did show up the last time they played with an orchestra in Januaury of 2008 but just a couple of songs. Maybe they will do more this time. I sure hope so.

The setlist from previous shows is very good except for Hold On, but still very goof songs being left like Portrait and Closet Chronicles, the last one just added to the new version of "Two for the Show". I just hope they release it soon because Device, Voice, Drum was excellent and would love to see them with David Ragsdale.

Interesting. I hope it'll be good. I don't know too much about Kansas, especially what they've being doing lately. I only got their albums Song for America, Point of known return and Leftoverture, all from the 70's, I have no idea what they did after that.

^^I don't know. Of all places to shoot a DVD, it seems more than mere coincidence that it's in Topeka, Kansas, where Livgren still resides. I know it's where they got their start, but they could've played at Missouri Western University or Northwest Missouri State up around St. Joseph where Walsh is from.

I`m looking for a high quality DVD of Kansas I own everything they have done on video and DVD so far but I`m hoping that they get every perfect for this release ... Kansas needs a state of the art production DVD in their catalog, I don't believe they have that yet. their latest came close but the grainy picture spoiled it for me hope they don't get that team of people in again to do this next one.
E as far as Livgren with them I`ll bet he isn't .. nice thought though thinking he could be Edited by Yorkie X - December 21 2008 at 07:57 |
