In my opinion DP have invented Heavy Prog but their evolution is in Xover HP way... Because DP are considered Heavy Rock/ Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal...

speed + metal... hmmm... don't think that was akin to spliting the atom you know hahahha.
K.C's Red was major influence on Grunge for God's sake hahha... doesn't mean King Crimson.. nor Deep Purple lost any importance to Prog. If Deep Purple was an influence on metal... yippe.. so were half a dozen other groups that weren't metal. |

DP is also at the foundation of Speed Metal, and without one of their most well known songs, "Highway Star", we might not even have it, today. But, hey... I hardly know what I'm talking about, on this, so feel free to prove me wrong.

I saw Deep Purple last year at Chastain in Atlanta and I thought they were great. The crowd was around 5,000 (I think, maybe more) and they put on a great show. Sure, they don't have Blackmore or Lord there, but their replacements were still great, and I thought that Steve Morse did as well as Blackmore, not to mention Steve is much less of a jerk than Blackmore is...

That song wasn't THAT bad, but Deep Purple is much, much better!
My friend was lucky enough to get a free ticket (from one of his relatives) to see them last summer |

ahhh... no. Deep Purple was the foundation to a whole sub-branch of prog. Many of it's standards.. are often called... DP clones. Righty or wrongly...but they are. Not to mention it was Jon Lord.. along with Emo.. who explored the fusing of classical music with rock music. What most people consider classic.. prog rock. http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=41 |

I'd say Deep Purple were way more important to Heavy Metal than Prog.

This is what Ian Gillan has ended up doing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHGIBfdi-pM I can't believe they went from proto-prog to this. And now the misheard lyrics because I can't understand what he's actually saying: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5eW9g5sOZY I can't not hear the misheard ones anymore I thought you guys might appreciate this because it's funny and semi-prog related.
