Surround sound and DTS are not exactly synonymous.  I have two systems that play Dolby surround and only one that does DTS.  Unfortunately my DTS unit doesn't seem to like Steven Wilson's latest releases in DTS, skips something horrible, which really sucks as SW releases everything surround exclusively DTS.  Cry
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Right now I´m listening to Ulver´s Blood inside. That would be pretty sweet to listen to in 5.1

^ even with two ears you can tell whether a sound comes from behind or from in front of you. Besides, the point about those 5.1 mixes is not that they sounds are flying around you like in a space fight scene of Star Wars. The point is that you have more channels at your disposal, each of which has greater dynamics and resolution than CD (usually 24bit/96khz). In the 5.1 mixes that I know the channels are typically used to separate the instruments better than in a stereo mix. It's difficult to describe, but if done properly this simply gives more clarity and transparency.

Seriously if the album is a great album I`m just as happy hearing it in plain old Stereo  , that's the trouble with all this modern stuff the artistic substance seems to get lost in translation,   haven't you noticed ?  If I go and get plastic surgery and get three more ears maybe it would make more sense

BTW: Here's a list of albums which are available in 5.1:

http://progfreak.com/home/charts.xhtml?chart.tag.1=mix_5_1

If some of you know other albums which aren't in that list yet - simply tag them with the tag 5.1 and rate them, and they'll be included automatically in that list.Smile

Ocean and Silent Cries and Mighty Echoes albums by Eloy.  Floyd's Atom Heart Mother and Meddle releases.  Yes's Fragile and Close to the Edge releases.  E.L.P.'s First, Tarkus, and Trilogy.  Banco's Darwin and Io Sono Nato Libero.  Symphony X's V The Mythology Suite , and more Floyd like Wish You Were Here and Animals.  There's so many more, I could never take the time needed, or don't want to now, to list them all.  For ex:  Both Anglagard releases, all Anekdoten releases, Anathema's Judgement, La Maschera De Sera'a Luxade, Can's Future Days and Tago Mago, and I could go on forever.

Tool - Lateralus

Symphony X. And what do you know ... in a few days they'll release a 5.1 mix of Paradise Lost. Ok, it would have been great to have V as a 5.1 mix, but you never know ... if many people buy the new release then maybe, some day ... Big smile

There are some bands (Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Genesis, Queen) that have released 5.1 mixes of their albums. Are there any albums out there that you would like to hear in a 5.1 surround mix?
