Don't talk twaddle! What I meant was Kate Bush's music is as progressive as Peter Gabriel's. I see a lot of similarity in their work, and not just the fact that Kate has guested on a number of Gabriel tracks. Also Peter Gabriel has never done a solo concept song cycle like the Ninth Wave. As far as I'm aware, ELP's other halves have never released any albums. And I don't think Mr Gabriel would be too pleased that you rate him in second place in a 2 man beauty contest with the Hunchback of Notre Dame! |

If ELP are here....then shouldn't their wives be added. That is as sensible a statement as the one up above. Quasimodo is better looking than Gabriel...add him too. |

I downloaded a video of Kate performing Comfortably Numb with Gilmour. Awful quality but the performance seems pretty good

This debate is a good example of the problem with the term 'prog'. The only reason I use it myself at all (when speaking about my music taste) is the fact that most of my favourite artists belong to the genre without a question. But if 'art rock' would not be a name of a sub-genre (quite hazy 'sub-genre', I bet), I'd prefer to talk about art rock instead of prog, implying by it: prog AND other rock(& pop) that is... well, arty and intelligent and original. Something that needs a certain concentration and gives 'artistic enjoyment' - excluding genres like 'prog metal' which serve quite different reasons and attitude for listening. Of course THAT line is as problematic as any other (and sorry for all the prog metal fans... So, I would vote YES to Kate's inclusion. PS II: I just found out the "storm in a water-glass" issue which I missed completely, not being here on weekends. But I don't exactly know would have I taken 'sides' on it anyway. Hopefully it all has sorted out. Edited by Matti |

If Kate Bush is added...then lets go the full hog and include Madonna, who's music has progressed from her early pop songs to art rock(ish). Well everyone else is being silly........Heathcliffe its me a kathy.......real prog.

It is a pleasant surprise to see this thread. Here is one artist that should be included in the Archives. I think most of her albums have some prog element to them and I agree if she is included the Art catagory would fit the bill. Most prog albums IMO are "The Dreaming" "Never Forever" and "Hounds of Love".

Bump.
Can someone add her or would that lead to another Jon and Vangelis or Deep Purple reaction? Edited by Dragon Phoenix |

If Kate Bush is included in prog rock then i know for sure the world has gone mad. Just because she ain't mainstream dosen't mean she is prog.................art rock is for the students who think they are cool, but are at best, only twats. Get a grip people and live in the real world...for christs sake.

KB has already a place in two prog sites : Babyblaue prog reviews (a german site devoted to progressive musics) and NGEPR. So if Progarchives tends to be the most complete prog site, it has to include KB. BTW, I consider KB's work to be as prog as Peter Gabriel's one. |

Bump... Because a friend asked me to explain what prog rock was, so I referred him to the definition on this site ( http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive-rock.asp). And then I noticed in that story, a short excerpt:
So if she is included in this site's own definition of what prog is, then why is she not in the archives... |

Yep, why not? If Gabriel, Zappa and Mr Bungle are listed in the Archives KaTe could be listed, too.
