What really surprised me in the unwanted song is the lack of atonality. Some parts are just plain enjoyable.
I mean, it starts off with some beautiful harp sounds, and it doesn't sound bad at all.

The unwanted song could've been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse (especially if I were behind the helm), but it was still the most hilarious thing I've ever heard!

That's beautiful, yet quite sad......in a perverted kind of way.

Now the story goes Tom Stolz did a masters identifying strong hooks in rock music, and he put his thesis to the test with the first Boston album as the outcome. And apparently with the money he earned from that allbum, Stolz put to developing effects for guitars which had only been achievable previously at high volume, and the second Boston album resulted......

Surely, the most wanted song is ironic....I enjoyed the most unwanted song - I am sure Zappa would have loved it.

I seriously think that more people would vote for the unwanted song if this was put to a vote.

Well after a good listening, I've decided that I enjoy the unwanted song and hate the wanted song.
I especially enjoy the children holiday sections, they are quite possibly the funniest things I've ever heard. The only things that I don't enjoy to some extent are the female rapping parts and the fact that it has a limited amount of styles and seems to go back and forth between too few styles too much.
What can I say? I like reviewing music.

I think the Wanted song is terrible for a pop song. The male singer gets on my nerves.
I'm listening to the most unwanted song right now and it's just hilarious. I'm about 3 and a half minutes in when the soprano opera singer is singing along to cowboy music. And now it just went into a bagpipe march.

I was hoping this was going to be a vote for the most unwanted song. I was going for Paul McCartney's Temporary Secretary.....a real stinker.

i found thison ubuweb (an avant-garde archive) . i just thought the music community here might enjoy this. I listened to the full 22 min "Unwanted Song" last night, and man, IT IS EPIC. the most wanted song sonds like a typical 90's soft rock song, but is still funny just because it was made so mathematically.
"Notes by the Composer
This survey confirms the hypothesis that today's popular music indeed provides an accurate estimate of the wishes of the vox populi. The most favored ensemble, determined from a rating by participants of their favorite instruments in combination, comprises a moderately sized group (three to ten instruments) consisting of guitar, piano, saxophone, bass, drums, violin, cello, synthesizer, with low male and female vocals singing in rock/r&b style. The favorite lyrics narrate a love story, and the favorite listening circumstance is at home. The only feature in lyric subjects that occurs in both most wanted and unwanted categories is "intellectual stimulation." Most participants desire music of moderate duration (approximately 5 minutes), moderate pitch range, moderate tempo, and moderate to loud volume, and display a profound dislike of the alternatives. If the survey provides an accurate analysis of these factors for the population, and assuming that the preference for each factor follows a Gaussian (i.e. bell-curve) distribution, the combination of these qualities, even to the point of sensory overload and stylistic discohesion, will result in a musical work that will be unavoidably and uncontrollably "liked" by 72 plus or minus 12% (standard deviation; Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic) of listeners. The most unwanted music is over 25 minutes long, veers wildly between loud and quiet sections, between fast and slow tempos, and features timbres of extremely high and low pitch, with each dichotomy presented in abrupt transition. The most unwanted orchestra was determined to be large, and features the accordion and bagpipe (which tie at 13% as the most unwanted instrument), banjo, flute, tuba, harp, organ, synthesizer (the only instrument that appears in both the most wanted and most unwanted ensembles). An operatic soprano raps and sings atonal music, advertising jingles, political slogans, and "elevator" music, and a children's choir sings jingles and holiday songs. The most unwanted subjects for lyrics are cowboys and holidays, and the most unwanted listening circumstances are involuntary exposure to commericals and elevator music. Therefore, it can be shown that if there is no covariance—someone who dislikes bagpipes is as likely to hate elevator music as someone who despises the organ, for example—fewer than 200 individuals of the world's total population would enjoy this piece. Art for the people- Your pal, Dave Soldier June 1997 "
