Wasn't he even Steve Rothery's brother in law? I might be mistaken.
I saw him once in concert as an opening act for Marillion. I wasn't impressed at that time.

Anyone remember those old Time-Life Wild West Books commercial? "And then there's John Wesley Harding, so mean he once shot a man just for snoring."

I agree with most of the comments here that his contribution to Porcupine Tree when touring is huge. I have seen PT twice now, both times with John and it was fantastic.
However, I have not been impressed too much with his solo work. |

iguana's post above made me remember I saw Wesley opening for Marillion during the Brave tour. It stuck just enough to come back by that trigger, but I have no clue what he played and whether I liked it. Probably not, I guess...

To appreciate his harmony vocals with Steven Wilson, listen to the PT album " We Lost the Skyline" which is an acoustic show with just the two of them. The version of "Lazarus" is wonderful.

Well, I saw Wesley with Flower Kings, and I know who he is now. A boring show. Okay, that was mean, but it was an hour of him on stage with a guitar, and that was too long. Don't get me wrong, he was a good guitar player and a good singer (though his lyrics were pretty simple) but a solo act like that never holds my interest for longer than a half hour.

Just to add that when i saw PT, Wesley's vocals and guitars were just a natural part of the band, he is really in it, when in concert.
I have his album called Shiver which is pretty good, but don't expect any proggy sound here.

plus, he has been a long time associate of nome other than the mighty
marillion. word has it that he started out as steven rothery's guitar tech on an american tour in the early 90s. they quickly found out that he wrote his own songs, liked it and duly promoted him to support act, which he did on many tours after (saw him on the “brave“- and “AoS“-tours. mark kelly produced his first solo album “under the red and white sky“, which has performances of some marillion members on it and this is probably how he got introduced to the whole marillion/fish/porcupine tree clique. very talented bloke and a great guy. |

You can really see his contributions to Porcupine Tree in the DVD "Arriving Somewhere..." I find his vocal harmonies with Steve Wilson quite amazing.
I believe he lives somewhere here in my area. I seen him a couple of times singing at a local restaurant around here. I assume because he's not part of the writing process... and he doesn't live in England.

Awesome. I have Deadwing and In Absentia. I need to listen to Deadwing again. . . In Absentia doesn't work for me.
Thanks for the answer. . . but, does he sing on PT? Because I really like the lead vocalist. Why isn't he a part of the band officially?

Damn, everyone beat me to it! :(
But yeah, what they said . . .
Actually, Wesley is very very good with PT, but I have never really listened to anything else by him. Should be satisfied with his work, though.

You'll deffinitely enjoy him. Fantastic singer and guitar player.
I also comply with the fact that he should be a full-time PT member.

You can also download some of his stuff for free from his myspace. He's got a great voice and he's a great player. I love him in live PT.

+1.
Great guitarist and vocalist. You must catch his solo performance.
You can download some of his work free from Porcupine Tree's website. Edited by CryoftheCarrots - August 28 2008 at 20:35 |

Jon Wesley should just be a permanent member of Porcupine Tree. His guitar and voice go great with the band.

JW released his solo albums for folks to listen to free of charge some time ago. Might be a good time to check him out.

Surely he's not the brother of Charles Wesley?
