The thing I'm getting most excited about, apart from at last having the 'lost' Genesis Plays Jackson stuff, is the fact that the albums have been painstakingly remixed/remastered in 5.1 Surround Sound. If they sound as good as the recent Trick of the Tail  5.1 remastering job (which sounds truly magnificent) I will be in seventh heaven.
 
Should've used the classic Paul Whitehead lettering on the box though, instead of the Collins-era We Can't Dance lettering - never mind!

Well for the record i'll said that the put well crafted songs in his POP music period, at least better than other horrible POP groups.

Can`t really get too excited aboout this band anymore. They`ve just did too much damage to themselves.For me they sold out. I will admit though that occasionally I`l throw one of their pre- LLDOB albums on the turntable close my eyes and pretend that all the commercial garbage never happened.

These guys really need to get their act together and put out some new prog.  Have they not got the memo?  Prog is back and in force.  But then, they've already made tons of money going commercial.  Perhaps they are no longer in it for just the money?
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I believe they will be dual-layer SACD's with a CD layer as well as an SACD Surround Sound mix, so it will play in any CD player.

Interesting that you should ask, here's the fan club e-mail that I received today:

Following on from the massive success of the Genesis DVD 'When In Rome,' which topped the music DVD chart for 3 consecutive weeks, the box set 'Genesis: 1970 - 1975' contains the five studio albums from 'Trespass' to 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' plus an extras disc full of rarities including Genesis Plays Jackson, an aborted soundtrack project for a BBC Art film on the work of painter Michael Jackson.

Yeah that would be nice!! i have recently hear Zurich 77 with an amazing quality!!!! and a very good version of It's yourself.
 
 
Damn, that box would be a TON of material.  But it would be great to have an expanded "Seconds Out"!

Come to think of it, they could probably release 2 "LIVE" Box sets;  1st one with everything including Hackett, 2nd one post-Hackett.  That would work for me.

To clear up a few things: this sequence of reissues features REMIXES of the albums, not simply remasters. The members of Genesis and engineer Nick Davis went back to the original master tapes and remixed the tracks to take advantage of modern technologies.

Once these are released the old '90s so-called Definitive Remasters will cease to exist as these new mixes will supercede them. Thus these are effectively 'different' albums.

How much different the first bunch of albums will be remains to be seen. With the later albums, all recorded on 16 track or more, it was a relatively simple task to revisit the tracks. Therefore you might get a guitar and a synth line recorded on two seprarate track and then re-recorded onto a third, freeing up the first two to be wiped and used for new tracks. In this way you cannot revisit individual tracks and clean them up or reEQ them because you get what you get. Apparently it was a tricky process with the 70-75 set.

Also someone else was enquiring why the DVD discs timing are the same as the CD. This is because the new sets come (wonderfully) in a variety of formats. The CD also carried an SACD layer and the DVD is a DVD Audio disc that also carries the bonus DVD Video material. Nice to see Genesis supporting audiophile formats (even if they are now largely obsolete). If you do have a home DVD player, some allow you play DVD-A or SACD discs. Give it a whjirl through your amp, the res is higher and should provide more detail, air and space than standard rubbish Red Book CD.

Me, I can't wait for these discs. The 76-82 set sounds awesome.
