Topic: Mars Volta- deloused vs. Francis Posted: July 29 2005 at 14:59 |
De Loused. I find it much more creative and explorative. There's so much more to the music. Frances combines styles, De Loused trandsends them.

Frances is amazing record; their finest achievement so far. The first time I spun it I was hooked. It feels more like a complete record than Deloused. The opener, Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus just reels you in with such an eclectic sound that sets the tone for the rest of the record. I love the confidence they have on this album; the vocals in a mix of spanish/english/made-up language; the massive salsa/fania-all stars influence creeping in; the classic rock elements; the imagination to create the soundscapes that they do. Not to mention how tight both the drummer and bassist are - plus, the drumming as a whole blows you away.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Deloused, but for me Frances elevates The Mars Volta into the category of most exciting band of 2005.
Frances is my fave album of 2005 so far.

De-Loused. I was relatively disappointed by Frances The Mute, even if Cassandra Gemini is a great piece ...

I like Frances more. Deloused is a great album, but it has much more punk than Frances. Punk sucks . Frances is almost punk-free. I hope they will improve iven more on future records.

I think De-Loused is a little better because of how accessible it is despite all the complexities of it like the meshing of genres and how the story is told

Deloused in the comatarium...much easier album to listen to all the way
through...songs play into each other very well..cedrics vocals and
omars guitar have made tremendous improvements on FTM

toughy. Both incredible, FTM is a lot more mature musically and lyrically so i chose that.

Frances by a country mile, huge step up for the band, though it does take a few intense listens to get to grips with

so far I still prefer the emotional intensity of De-loused...but Frances is still relatively new to me so there's plenty of time to change my mind.

I haven't heard Deloused but I really doubt its as good as Francis... I've listened to this album daily for the past two weeks and it still blows me away. Perhaps because of the strong finish... "Cassandra Geminni" is really something to behold!

You can't beat Deloused for an intense listening experience. I really
didn't get it at first, but when you put it up loud on a decent hi-fi,
there is just so much in there that it takes every bit of your
attention and knocks you back. There are still a few twadly bits, but
less than in the overly padded FTM. Having said that, I still haven't
got to listen to FTM on my home hi-fi so haven't had the "full"
experience. Both are better than Omar's solo project anyway.

I think Frances the Mute is definitely a step up from deloused,
musically and lyrically. The concept is so complex, and the overall
talent of the band has clearly improved. I really love the way Cedric
uses his voice in this album, and the spanish is very cool... Cant say
the 'noise' bits intrigue me too much though, i could have odne without
them.
Deloused was an amazing record, but frances the mute is a sound improvement imho.
