at the very least.. maybe Peart can get a drumming lesson from Charlie Watts LOL

When you have managed to survive for about one century playing the exact same rhythm with the same incredibly un-excited face, believe me, there IS something that can be learned from you...LOL

har har har.... what's to be said about learning to not judge a book by it's cover...

Charlie Watts is a fabulous drummer Teo...

During the past 15 years, Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has been able to pursue his passion for jazz, playing in a variety of settings whenever he wasn't otherwise engaged with the "World's Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band." In 1985, he formed a big band and toured the States, ultimately releasing Live at Fulham Town Hall on the Sony label. In 1991, he formed a small group to pay homage to the music that first grabbed him while growing up in London.  In a span of five years, The Charlie Watts Quintet released a series of stellar recordings -- From One Charlie, Tribute To Charlie Parker , Warm And Tender and Long Ago And Far Away - that reaffirmed Watts' ongoing love affair with jazz.

Damn! Didn't know that... Let me rephrase then...When you have managed to survive for about 100 years fooling everybody but some prog fans into believing that you absolutely suck and are absolutely bored to death of playing in your million-making band, believe me, there is even more than can be learned from you...TongueLOL

Historically, it seems that Rolling Stone was actually the magazine that led the charge against progressive rock. If you read Edward Macan's books like 'Rocking The Classics' and 'The Endless Enigma', the earliest criticism comes from that magazine when progressive bands were generally getting excellent reviews/positive coverage elsewhere. Other magazines soon followed their lead, but it was the old dinosaurs like Dave Marsh and Robert Christgau- both of whose tastes seem to have languished somewhere in the 1950s!- who got the boot in first. Macan seems to have been the only writer that I'm aware of that has really done this subject any justice.

The volte face they've done recently, then, has been quite amusing to watch; denying their antipathy to Rush (which is pretty well known!) and giving Genesis a fair bit of coverage on that reunion tour (a rave review of one of their concerts and a lengthy interview a few weeks back). It's gotten to the stage where these magazines literally cannot ignore the impact such bands have made on contemporary rock.

I'm not sure whether I fit the 'nerd' stereotype as defined in that article; I'm definitely not into Dungeons-and-Dragons, Harry Potter, never bothered with Sudoku, don't even know what an i-Phone is and am not even remotely interested in sci-fi (save Doctor Who, and I'm not a fanboy even then).

Yeah there's a bunch of stuff online right now at RS, including Rush reviews.  They lost me when they quit being a music rag and became a pop culture rag.  There was a time (inception through early-70's) when RS had relevance.  Now you can read better review in People.

The June issue that was just released features an article on Rush, I don't know if it's the same one you've heard a rumor about but it's about 3 or 4 pages long. I haven't read it yet so I can't report on what the content is.

Have they run out of "big at the moment" ephemeral pop groups ? A cover & main article on Rush would seem to require the sort of work they usually reserve for their "social" commentary and investigative reportings.
