Yeah, having an overtly "academic" (the scare quotes are very much intentional ) approach to the arts isn't that good an idea because if your default angle to art is that of detached analysis it can become difficult to appreciate something on its own terms. I've learned that the hard way. |

Studying literature I've come to think that discussing literary analysis is one of the least intellectual things one can do. |

I have the Book Of Leviathan collection and it's great. Then again, I am a bit of a Peter Blegvad fanboy.

Qwantz actually can be pretty intellectually stimulating also, BTW. They discuss literary analysis and philosophy quite often. |

Yeah i like your comics to, only your writing is a little redundant don't you agree.
BTW I haven't seen a new comic in a while now, when will there be new parts to the wombat saga.

Doin' it for the prehistoric lulz.
Also, Qwantz is amazing. Part of what I love about the restricted artwork is the off-panel invisible characters it creates, like God who talks in all caps, and the devil who only wants to talk about obscure video games... and of course Mr. Tusks the tiny elephant who makes bad puns (He is the mayor of tiny towne island!) I think it would be fine for being part of the joke once, but repeatedly? it gets a bit stale after a while. you don't put mustard in everything you cook either |

Talk about not seeing the wood for the trees... the way it's the same comic over and over but with different text, and the fact that the characters being dinos is irrelevant are part of the joke. Me, I enjoy it. At times it reminds me of Calvin & Hobbes. |

So? It's well-written. That's what matters to me. I could care less about the artwork. |

I think it's crocodile tears Friede reminds me (a bit) of this snippet of 70s wonder: The raft was hurled by an unseen source,
Two hundred feet, with frightening force
And a dark mass rising showed to be A giant porpoise rising out of the angry sea,
Towered the creatures' enemy,
And so the two sea monsters closed for battle Crocodile teeth, lizard's head, Bloodshot eye, stained ocean red
Moving close to their raft's side, The two men prayed as one and cried
"Save me, save me, save me, save me" |
