It's Doomguy, the protagonist from the game Doom.
Yeah, it's a gun, he needs it to kill aliens and demons. |

^If he had DI or direct recording capabilities that would kinda imply he actually has recording equipment wouldn't it?

Have you tried Audacity and going DI ? I couldn't get it to record in stereo on this laptop, but others have had good results with a pc.

Hey, what happened to examples of all this shredding practice ? Nothing too serious, just improvisation would be nice.

Well, for the updates, I've finally figured out all the arpeggio shapes for the Selkies: The Endless Obsession solo, and it's a little cleaner too, although the last arpeggio is still pretty hard.

The heaviest Gibson pick. But in warm weather I could feel it flexing, so I made one out of stainless steel plate (around 1mm). Had to be smoothed and highly polished. There is absolutely no flex, but it gives a different sound - less bass and more treble. Not so good for the finish of the guitar.......but at least I can say It's a true Heavy Metal pick ! ^Hehe.
In a good practice session, a good shredder will run through not only shredding technique, but bending, vibrato and various other expression techniques, plus theory, jamming with chord progressions, learning songs etc, not just 5 hours of shredding you know |

Shredders... those b*****ds!
Man, is that 6 hours per day thing serious? I can´t practice techniques for more that 20 min... But then again I don´t consider myself that good of a guitarist, I think of myself of a composer... I´ll leave the shredding to people with patience |

Not as of yet, but I should get around to that later this week
Been playing 3-5 hours a day lately, which is what we all should be aiming for. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexi_Laiho Read, and you shall find what I'm talking about. In other news, I'm getting ever closer to the solo from Selkies: The Endless Obsession, plus I've noticed my 3 string sweeps just work now, just completely easy and natural now, which wasn't the case a few months ago. |

Please 'scuse my ignorance, as it's obvious, I've been under a rock for sometime. The ONLY thing I know about Children of Boden is from seeing an ad in a guitar magazine. My drummer had a clinic with DT's drummer Mike Portnoy and yes, I have heard Mr. Petrucci, but not a lot. So, call me slow and not up to date. Perhaps my age happens to be a wall (over 40). I heard Jimi Hendrix at 5 years old and that blew my mind. I heard Deep Purple, then Rainbow and all the heavy bands of the 70's. I studied classical guitar for 5 years and heard Van Halen, then this Swedish wiz kid. So, my tastes tend to run that direction. Rush was a big influence (I REALLY like "Caress Of Steel" and "Hemispheres", but that is for another thread.) as was....ok...I admit....some of the 80's shlock bands. But, I am open to suggestions for listening and then I can draw my own conclusions.
So, if I am looking for inspiration and to generally feel good, I tend to lean towards Yngwie, Ritchie, Uli, Joe Stump, Satriani, Al Di, Jimi, and some Wes Montgomery. For fingerstyle, I like Alex Di Grassi. Classical is Julian Bream, Segovia and Alex Masi's renditions of Mozart. Classical music is VERY inspiring, so by using those footholds and my studies and library of books, I get fed pretty good.
So, perhaps some new listening is in store........
