«[…] the sphere on the album is best described by thinking of a smoky jazzcafé, in which a couple musicians who make a good team play their music. Sometimes there is room for soloing, in which the clarinet-play introduces a classical element in the music, somewhat comparable with Michael Nyman. This element contrast well with the more jazzy saxophone, the piano and the funky bass. The binding factor are the strummed sounds of the guitar, which reminded me a bit of the French group Noetra (who also added classical elements). «OK here is a disc that isn't going to stop the world from spinning on it's axis or change the course of music. Getting that out of they way I can't express how much I enjoyed this disc. It was hyped as being in the vein of Deus Ex Machina and nothing could be further from the truth. CCFM are a young Italian seven piece jazz rock ensemble creating intelligent music that really soaked into my skull. A bit laid back - but with an undercurrent of intensity - the sound revolves around the interplay between clarinet, sax and guitar. The long piece "Aria Antica" reminded me of a long jam from Traffic circa "Low Spark" - Michele Leiss' sax echoing Chris Woods. Other reference points I heard along the way include Perigeo, Secret Oyster, Area and Finnforest. These guys are off to a fine start.» THE LASER'S EDGE: progressive sounds from around the world
