Actually it was "I forgot the words, can you fCensoredking believe it?"

I just remembered this like 2 minutes ago but thanks for that correction

I'm very surprised that Porcupine Tree haven't caught on outside of diehard Prog fan circles. They're a way more interesting band than Radiohead but let's be honest that really doesn't count for much in today's music scene. But still albums like In Absentia, Deadwing and Fear Of A Blank Planet are hugely ignored by the masses and I know given the chance from a lot of people their fanbase would increase hugely.

PT has lots of fans inside the prog comunity, being myself one Wink

But maybe in a more mainstream scene like Mtv or stuff, PT could somehow be unknown.

Even though, I think I saw a video from them on TV, so I guess that their fame is ascending outside the prog comunity.

Klaatu and Ange? Try Conventum and Third Ear Band.

I'd like to point out that I find that outstanding acts such as Klaatu & Ange would likely be pleased to enjoy such a lack of fans in America.
Anyways, once more it sounds like us poor proggers are somehow put upon by not seeing all our fave acts topping the charts and overwhelming the mass media that we so often put down for its' lack of taste. Ahem.....

Oh boy.  Sorry, but for all the bands discussed around here suffering from a lack of exposure, I wouldn't exactly put Porcupine Tree in that category.

Yeah, they're more popular than Caravan, still not as popular as they should be though. Both bands should have more fans, but people like bad music, what can you do.

Are you saying we PAers like bad music ?

I saw PT at last at their first ever gig in Australia last week. The band are NOT short of fans here in oz.Everywhere I looked the crowd were ecstatic. The band were outstanding and I think the live set of FOABP came across even better than the cd.Along with the backdrop movies -very dark and moving songs. The band were genuinely surprised at the audience appreciation and love of all the material played.
Incidently a previous poster stated SW forgot the words to Blackest Eyes.Well he did it again but it was a very funny moment.Like the string breaking during Trains on the dvd.Maybe he throws in something random like that in every gig.A real charismatic front man imo.

^ i think he meant popular prog...

i like in absentia and enjoy half of deadwing half the time but am having trouble with FOABP. their older stuff is much better -ie sky moves sideways. dont really understand the extreme hype, they're good but not THAT good, but im glad they're getting people into prog. id lump them in with DT as being a good "gateway" band.

I must say, I've never heard DT called Pop-Prog. They have the occasional songs that lend to mainstream, but the majority of thier work is far from that. PT have also created material like this.

Lack of fans? Are you kidding me? Next to the Mars Volta(or DT if we can count them)they are probably the most popular current prog band. Both PT and TMV showed up around the 500's in a list of the top 885 bands/artists of all time on a poll done by a radio show in 2006. Also, PT's last two albums both cracked the Billboard charts("deadwing" was 132 and "foabp" was 59). Also, when I saw them in 2005 they had filled up about 90-95 percent of a venue that seats about 1,350. Not too shabby. What other newer prog band has 1,000(or more)fans showing up at concerts? Not many that I can think of. If there are any modern prog bands that have lack of fans they would be the Flower Kings and Spock's Beard. Both of those bands were contemporaries of PT back in the 90's and all three were considered the big three of modern prog. THen once Steve Wilson started working with Opeth PT found themselves being mentioned in metal magazines and they just rose ahead all the other newer prog bands as far as popularity goes. Being signed to a major label didn't hurt either. Wink
