Topic: Worst interpretations of Prog you heard of? Posted: January 17 2008 at 21:27 |
Porcupine Tree IS good, Ian.
My friend called Soft Machine's Fourth 'random noise'. I laughed and said, 'no, that was their previous album.'

Some of the bands that have been called 'nasty' by my mother, most on multiple occasions:
Magma
Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
Hatfield and the North
Henry Cow
Jethro Tull
ELP
etc.

I told my friend I listen to progressive music, and once, he took my heaphones while I was listening to Koenjihyakkei (and of course, it made no sense to his ears), so now his idea of prog is of music that is random, frantic, atonal, and unstructured.

I remember when a friend of mine thought that prog metal is a fusion between heavy metal + european classical music. He had no clue about 70's prog rock. It was a stressful period... But luckily, everything went good; now he listens to Frank Zappa.
