Well Marcel, I attend this Irish pub since I went to Ajax two times a month for many years, it has become my focal point in Amsterdam concerning oral phase based subjects so I can ask the waiters to play some prog the next time, perhaps it's possible to blend Kilkenny's on draught, chicken sateh and ... Mellotron-drenched symphonic prog

Well, from a pub that has good Irish beer and good Indonesian sateh at the same time you would expect some musical fusion. I think they could be lured into prog. Just tell them it's a musical version of their food and drinks. They probably don't know any better. Music is not their core business

Ah, the Old Bell.... I was walking back to Amsterdam Central Station last month after visiting a customer. I missed a turn and suddenly I was standing right in front of it. If it hadn't been for band practise, I would've gone in for saté and a beer.

Yes, but not like a nun with a gun (verse 2) BTW, the Irish pub The Old Bell has become your Twilight Alehouse ?

That's the spirit Marcel, if I keep on thinking that I missed Genesis gigs in 1976 and 1977
because of very bad luck, my life would have end on the dark side of the moon
Thursday I will meet Progwalhalla Hans, I hope to tell you very soon about new wonderful music !
By the way, what does VIP Member mean, Very Irresistible Proghead ?!

I hope to see you early 2009 on a Progwalhalla evening, in my memory it's more than two years ago that you visited one, am I right?

I will ask Hans in time and I can arrange something: no problem. Irish beer and sateh : what a wonderful combination! You got yourself a deal.
Solar Music: I know. I was thinking if I should have said it at all. It's the Close To The Edge of the Germans, I suppose.

Marcel, I hope you can arrange something (please contact Progwalhalla Hans) and perhaps we can meet a bit earlier in Amsterdam in order to visit the splendid Irish pub The Old Bell: great Kilkenny's on draught and delicious sateh special By the way, you are not familiar with Solar Music , shame on you, you have missed essential German progrock history !

Great news from Konzerte, because I love Novalis. Eroc: seeing how many times I hear his name, this man must be a monument of prog
Yes, Rockpommel's Land sounded too laid back, that's the word. The artwork was great, though. I still haven't listened to their magnum opus Solar Music yet.
About the Progwalhalla evening: I try to, Erik. I really would like to do that. If it's in Zaandam: maybe I'll organize with friends or family that I can be the Friday in the Netherlands already, so that I don't need to drive too many hours on the Saturday, because I have to get back to Belgium for the Sunday morning. If I know the date some time ahead I can arrange something. All the Saturdays in February are still free for me now (all the Sundays occupied).

Hello Marcel, good to see you in this thread
Indeed, at last, we had to wait more than 30 years but the CD release of Konzerte by Novalis is really worth listening due to the excellent remastering work of Eroc, a big hand for him
Rockpommel's Land has its moments but in general it is a bit laidback album, I prefer Ballermann and of course Solar Music is the highlight, what an awesome epic!
I hope you will be there on our next Progwalhalla evening, perhaps in February, OK?

Konzerte is out on re-release? At last!!! That must be a classic album: I probably must have read that in one of your reviews, Erik, as usual I might say . I tried to get it, and it was not obtainable for a long time, but now...
Thank you, bringer of good news! Grobschnitt: I tried Rockpommel's Land once, but was a bit disappointed by it. But Ballermann is probably a stronger album? I remember you highlighting that one in a not - so - well - known - classic albums special. |
