Passionist, it's Winehouse not Whitehouse. I don't especially like her (infact, she annoys me), but I find I dislike Kate Nash more.

I think what defines hip is what gets all the marketing. Yeah, so you get a tv commercial stating that there's a huge new success and very famous and popular Amy Whitehouse, and ok, then most people go and buy her album because it's there. And they play it on the radio, well, the radio never plays anything people like, they play what they're paid to play, easy as that. Oh, I'm not valling her trash because I haven't heard her music at all. All I know is she's been nominated for most prices in the what'sit grammy something gala. Which obviously stands for nothing. I myself wouldn't care for a musical trophy from something that awards singers such as Whitehouse here and Timberlakes there. Seriously.

I don't see what the big deal is... I've heard a bit of her material and it mostly sounds like she's trying really hard to emphasize parts that don't require emphasis with a voice that lacks the range to do so properly in the first place... there's no substance, and like most pop music it just bores me to death. I see very little talent there.
Her personal life is a whole other issue... I don't even want to touch that.

Well, not having heard any of her music I'm going to have to say that her mother was a hamster and her father smelt of elderberries.

Um....
...Ni!
What are the press comments? What happened to her? Actually nevermind, I don't really care. I just wanted to reply to the Python quote.

Don't know much about her other than what I read here and there. I just hate to see anyone with God-granted talent for making music waste it on being a narcissist.

A tragic character, who has the potential to be sheer class. She is certainly not trash. I dont like the idea of dismissing someone in that way.
Anyone who has heard her sing live, will know she is actually not a great singer, but certainly a unique one. Her music stands out in the sea of chart mediocrity. I hope she is able to climb out of the pit of self destruction she has fallen into.

There's a genuinely talented pop performer in there struggling to get out. Sadly, it looks like the hype is eclipsing the talent at the moment.

Just heard her for the first time. As if Christmas shopping wasn't bad enough, having her stuff blasted through the unforgiving low-fi Best Buy intercom added new pain to the experience.

Some of her stuff has some cool jazz moments, a bit too poppy though.

^^ got your point Dean , pre-fabricated...

I agree that these people need help sometimes, but they come from a 'trashy' system that leads them to this direction. And as ' prefabricated' they don't get the chance to re-assemble themselves...

not quite nowhere, she is a graduate of both Sylvia Young Theatre School (which gave us such luminaries as Robbie WIlliams and the Appleton Sisters) and The BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology (alumni include Kate's Nash and Melua) - i.e. she arrived prefabricated and flat-packed for easy assembly (and as always with such things, a few screws missing ).
First disapointment was Frank wasn't about Mr Zappa and the second was that Back To Black wasn't a hommage to AC/DC.

Musically I don't even know what Winehouse does - I'll have to get an impression of it somehow.

^^ I see she's cancelled all her forthcoming tour dates....
...frankly, even using the world's most powerful microscope, I still wouldn't be able to locate my interest in this woman....
