New songs by Zep would be good if co-authored and co-played by John Paul Jones, but I don't know if Page and Plant want to reunite with him or not...

good luck to them and i hope they release a new album of songs - they have every right to exploit the name Led Zeppelin, after all many others have already been doing this for years
still wish i'd got a ticket though...

I just think of those legacy-tarnishing albums that The Stooges and the New York Dolls have put out as of late... self-parody is what springs to mind.

Amen, I really hope they don't record any new material, as I think it probably would be less than good, and wouldn't deserve to carry the name Led Zeppelin. By hanging it up such a long time ago as you put it, they've managed to stay fresh and new to new generation of listeners. |

Yeah the way i think of it Page and Plant Unplugged is an amazing dvd showing their possibly just as creative in the nineties as they were in the 70's,and with plants and jp's albums being a high standard still shows they could do it and sound fresh.Combine all of that together you have Led Zeppelin, slight optimism lol whatever they'll do it will be good but all people will do is compare to their seventies albums.

I gave "Walking Into Clarksdale" another listen over the weekend and have to say that it has some good moments, but it nevertheless is what I'd call quite decent and not really one of the great albums by Page/Plant. I much more enjoyed "Unledded - No Quarter" for it's wide range of sounds from good old Led Zep blues rock to world music.
I agree with Samlamics up there that "Mighty Rearranger" and especially John Paul Jones' "The Thunderthief" were/are much more promising. I really believe that it would have done "Clarksdale" some good had JPJ been involved. All in all Andu is right, of course: It's a matter of taste in the end. |

Anyone who has heard Plant's solo album of 2005, 'Mighty Rearranger', wouldn't say he doesn't have gas left in the tank, IMHO. I'd recommend that one unreservedly to Zeppelin fans, personally speaking. I play it a hell of a lot more than 'Coverdale Page' (a heck of a lot of cliches on this one, IMHO) and 'Walking Into Clarksdale' (I don't find this to be all that great, either- need to play it again, I guess). Haven't heard Plant's new one yet. I believe it's a country-style album and whilst I'm no country fan by any stretch (a few isolated exceptions aside, most of it bores me to death!), I'll still give it a listen as it's good, IMHO, that he's still trying out new things. Page I'm less sure of; have not heard 'Outrider' but the only major projects he's been involved in- The Firm, Coverdale/Page, that collaboration with The Black Crowes- have been rather backward looking compared to Plant, IMHO. John Paul Jones' 'The Thunderthief' is a very proggy album and, like Plant, shows he's still got some innovative ideas. As for this Zeppelin reunion, anybody else hear about the one-off supergroup that's supposed to playing as a warm-up? Word is that Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, Chris Squire and Simon Kirke of Free/Bad Company are supposed to be playing that gig. I'm not saying that the Firm's songs were "really good". I liked Radioactive & Moonlight something or other, but the rest sounded ... ok at best. And if I remember correctly, most of the songwriting was credited to Rodgers. |

I also don't think these guys will deliver the goods. Maybe they should reform as a Black Metal band.

I rather wish they wouldn't reform. They still have their legacy intact. Unlike some acts which age gracefully and seem capable of scoring again, based on solo careers I believe Zep new material would be pretty lame.
They made a decision to hang it up all those years ago, in my opinion they should have honored that. For Bonzo, for Peter Grant, and their fans sake. If they want to keep working, fine, do a project, but do it as a new band instead of just exploiting the name Led Zeppelin.
Do we need another group like the Stones, who look like the California Raisins, running around and shaking their arses in their 60s?
Just one cynics opinion.

Could be interesting....or not but I deffinitely want to hear it and would be pleased if they gave it a shot....even though the b*s!*>d's didn't pick me for concert tickets. Okay, I guess they didn't choose who got them so I'll forgive them.

Well if Clarksdale is "bland" and those Firm songs were "really good", then it's definitely a (major) difference in tastes... Not going to argue about it.

If they do record new songs, it could really go either way. I think Jason Bonham has the same sort of style as his old man and Plan and Pages' stuff since the end of Led Zep has mostly been pretty interesting. We shall see....

I found it bland & inferior to just about all of Plant's solo stuff except for his third album Shaken n Stirred. And while I'm curious to see what a modern Zep might come up with, I think we'd be better off checking Jonesy's solo stuff for musical clues as to what might come out. Page hasn't written good or great music consistently since Presence. In Through the Out Door was mostly Plant/Jones, The Firm had more Paul Rodgers than Page & Page's solo album had 1-2 really good songs, with the rest being tired & aimless. Maybe all those years of being the "quiet" one have left John Paul Jones with more living brain cells than Jimmy ? |

Clarksdale decent?! I thought that was one of the best (non-prog) albums of the 90s!

The last combined effort by Page and Plant (Walking into Clarksdale) was quite decent, but was lacking JPJ's influence. Hopefully they'll come up with something strong, although I have to admit that I have my doubts. Don't misunderstand me, I love Led Zeppelin, but sometimes reunions can be a bit of a let down, as has been said earlier.
