I've always found Harmony Central to be a good starting place, though I'm no expert on Midi. http://www.harmony-central.com/MIDI/

Ermm midi advice on a prog site, maybe not a good place to ask... do VCS3s, Mellotrons and Hammonds have midi interfaces? LOL
What?

I've finally got a good setup to record with, though my PC is nowhere near up to modern standard, and I have to get something newer to do what I really want to do.

First, here's what I'm working with -

Windows 2000 Pro on a Circa 2002(?) Compaq Presario - Pentium II, 256 MB of RAM.

Not very powerful, but I have an excellent Audio Interface - An  M-Audio Omni I/O (Now Discontinued) which connects via the Delta 66 PCI Card (Which now comes with a different interface). So it gets Audio in and out, and the chips in the PCI card take care of the processing, for the most part; it runs on ASIO Drivers.

It sounds excellent, which brings me to the point that I need guidance on....

I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (Now Adobe Audition) to record, and I'm getting into using FL Studio to program backings, and run VST Plugins/Software Synths/etc. with an old General MIDI Yamaha keyboard that goes to a MIDI/USB interface.

When my PC is up to date and can support it all, I'm looking at at least one M-Audio Axiom keyboard controller, and this set of Behringer control surfaces, the BCF and BCR
series.

I've done a fair amount of research, but I'm having trouble finding good online resources to learn the basics of MIDI, to get an idea of how to make all of those control surfaces work, and even how feasible all of it would be.

Can anyone suggest some good forums /archives to check out?
