Enjoyed them much more than on the R30 Tour. Don't know why, perhaps that set tried to accomplish too much but this one seemed more balanced. Of course there were a dozen songs I would have loved to have heard but overasll I thought it was killer - and the band looked much more alive and enthusiastic than they did when they hit the UK on the R30 leg last tijme out. In fact they all looked loike they were really enjoying themselves, especiallyt when the audience sang along with almost all of Spirit of Radio and did its best to match the Brazil crowd in singing along with YYZ.
Funny seyt in that it concnetrated really heavily on mid-period Rush with four tracks from Permanent Waves, three from Moving Pictures, two from Signals, a couple of from Grace Under Pressure and Mission from Hold Your Fire (which was awesome, so miuch better than the bombastic yet still reed thin 80s production on record). But as this is my favourite period (Permanent to Signals) then I wasn't complaining. The Snakes and Arrows stuff slotted in seamlessly tolo. All in all a belter. Top tjhis up with my Porcupine Tree double vinyl limited edition bluer vinyl arrived the morning after and in my email was the link to download the news Radiohead, it doesn't get much better.... top 24 hours |

^^ from the rear of the hall they looked like banks of sophisticated electronic wizardry - a leg to nibble during the interval would have been nice though.... they look tasty!
maybe some Coca Cola vending machines would look great on stage! ?
or a Red Barchetta..

I think the chickens are better than the washer driers. Mind you, I was a bit surprised when my mate turned and said "why is there a chef on the stage?".

well as Geddy's amped directly into the PA he no longer needs a stack behind him. This leaves a space that needs to be filled and on R30 they had washer driers. Presumably Ged likes chicken (the pre-show film attests to this) so he hatched () the idea of the chicken rotisseries. Those arent real chickens BTW.. |

Great review Steve, I'll forgive the song errors because you were so nice about my photos. next time take notes..
I was pleasantly surprised as to how well the SnA songs came over and I believe that Far Cry will be in the set for many years. How many bands would get the ultimate accolade of a South Park original sketch? Anyone who imagines that Rush arent Prog any more should catch them live. The degree of musicianship is way ahead of all "rock" bands and the sophistication of the band's songs makes them unique. Rock bands and pop bands do not make this kind of music, I defy anyone to name a rock band (non Prog) that makes music as complex as this. |

Splendid review Steve! I don't regret missing it though - me and Mrs Syzygy enjoyed a super game of Scrabble on the evening in question, which more than made up for it...!

That was a fabulous concert. Amazing.
Though I'm pretty sure Alex played his acoustic solo piece after Peart's drum solo. |

Great review but they didn't play twilight zone.
Great to see Rush are still on top form, I thought the second half of the show is when it really took off. Personal highlights were Natural Science, Tom Sawer, Subdivisions and YYZ. I thought Neil Pearts drum solo was excellent as well with some new stuff in it. I wish I was there again tonight :( BTW, is there any tech heads out there who could identify the keyboards Geddy was playing I know one was a Roland and the other was a Moog, just wondered what Roland and what Moog? |
