So many to choose from... my #1 favorite would have to be the first solo in "La Villa Strangiato" from Exit...Stage Left. That particular performance consistently moves me emotionally.
My second favorite is "Kid Gloves" from Grace Under Pressure. It's a very rhythmic and frenetic solo. Love it!

I would also say the solo from "The Weapon", that is a truly amazing piece of guitar work. "Signals" has to be my favourite Rush album, but I never play the last track...

You know what....I'd have to say THE TREES...I like those nice and consice solos that he does...like in Subdivisions. Not a lot going on technically, but every note is memorable. I especially like his rhythm guitar surrounding the TREES solo...masterful arpeggios. Say thanks Radiohead.

Great solo, great song, great album. Most Rushfans just gravitate towards Lerxst's solos like those in "Analog Kid" and "Limelight," but Signals is my favorite Rush recording.

Great thread about a truely great artist. Too many to make one choice. Alex has a unique sound and style, i've yet to make an accurate comparison to anyone else, but, i "hear" him in the same way i hear Hackett. I think he has a similar role in Rush as did Steve with Genesis, textural and atmospheric.
My pics would have to be La Villa, YYZ, Freewill, Between the Wheels and Marathon.
One thing i learned a long long time ago was, never rely on Rollong Stone, Playboy or MTV to give credit where credit is due.
Alex defintely deserves "alot" more credit, and that's what we are giving him here!  |

Yes it is, it's amazing! I remember an early review (taken from another website) of Fear of a Blank Planet saying that the solo was out of place. I don't know what this person was thinking when writing that review....
