Topic: maggie reilly or annie haslam? Posted: June 27 2005 at 05:24 |
Maggie! I love her voice.
I like Annie's voice too, but Mike Oldfield always found great voices for his albums. Where King Crimson had the best male voices(Greg Lake, John Wetton, Adrian Belew), Mike Oldfield had the best female voices (Sally Oldfield, Maddy Prior, Maggie Riley...)

Can't agree Easy livin' hope you had a good holiday only Joni Mitchell can come near Annie.

just slightly: christina has tremolos in her voice, and she has a lesser sweet perfect tone. she sing extremely well, but you have to understand that maggie is just THE reference in singing.
after having read the posts , i think my choice goes for annie reilly, euh...sorry: maggie haslam!
don't put kate bush in the same bag! i love kate bush, she sing very well, but she sounds like an amateur compared to those 2 madames!

Swinton you old softie you..
It seems we have a great romantic poet in the making...
I once read an interview with Kronos, singer/bass player with black metal heroes Venom. He was a huge Kate Bush fan and once travelled from Newcastle to some other town where Kate was doing a record signing. At the signing she kissed him on the cheek wherapon he burst into tears and walked home 20 miles in the rain.

Although Annie is a perfect, great singer, my personal favourite is Reilly because of the sweetness in her voice.

I voted for Annie as I have her more Rennaisance than anything Reilly has been involved in.
I love AH's voice, but my hunch is that MR may have better intonation. One of my favourite prog albums of the 70's is 'Ashes are Burning' by Rennaisance, but I have to admit that Haslams voice is quite badly flat on some songs. In particular, 'At the harbour' If I had been the producer I would have probably pushed for them to re-record the vocals for that song.
Its still a great song and her voice is lovely nonetheless.
