I like Camel better than I like Pink Floyd. But I have to admit that Gilmour has been more innovative. (But hell, Latimer kicks his ass on flute!)

Gilmour is a far better player, I can actually remember his solos.

I can never forget the first time I listend to the album "Harbour of Tears".

Latimer gets my vote, although is hard to say who is the best between the two. The Snow Goose is my favorite album and there Latimer was at his top  For my taste, the top of Gilmour was when he played together with R.Waters.

Latimer for sure. More talented and more enjoyable guitarist, while Camel are a more talented and more enjoyable band than Floyd

Well said. I donīt dislike Camel either and I think Latimer is a very good guitarist but he sure sounds as Maestro Gilmourīs aprentice.

As much as I love Andy Latimer (and obviously so do many people - just look at the results), it basically comes down to one critical question: which one of the two is responsible for one of my favourite guitar solo's ever, namely 'The Final Cut'? And the answer of course is David Gilmour. So there you go.

So far those are my thoughts on Camel as well, just a tad nicer  . But I just don't get the hype.

A tiny vote for Latimer here. Mostly because of Lady Fantasy and that absolutely stunning explosion for the final part. Floyd are mostly a lyrics/ideas band for me, so I perhaps tend to unfairly overlook Gilmour's input. Neither are particular favourites of mine, really, since I tend to prefer something slightly faster.

Latimer by a small margin.
Slightly more technically proficient, slightly more emotional.
But both are amongst the very, very best.

I went for Mr. David Gilmour. Pink Floyd was my first band, and it's probably important to my vote, but no other person in the world can mix my emotions with the guitar playing as David Gilmour does.
But Andrew Latimer is surely in my top 10 guitarists of all time and he was very underrated. Talking about other things, his flute playing is amazing, and Gilmour has the good voice that Latimer doesn't have. So, for me, the difference is just on this very subjective argument of emotion and feeling when playing the guitar.
And they are guitar virtuosos, because playing with emotion and feeling every sound that comes out of the guitar is playing well, and is advanced technique, thus virtuosism.

Mr. Gilmour by faaaaaaaaaaaaaar. I hate blues, and yet love the guy's guitar workings (at least in Pink Floyd), so that should say something!

Both are brilliant musicians but I have to give it to Andy Latimer, the nicest guy in the music business. Both play with a lot of emotion, but Latimer is possibly THE definition of emotion in music and he's more versatile too... not to mention his flute skills.

Personally I prefer emotion over glory.
So My Vote goes to Andrew Latimer, as the only man who can make the guitar cry.

Agreed. Saw Latimer live with Camel in 1978 at UC San Diego campus (while a student there) and compared to seeing footage of Gilmour (never seen him play live - my loss), Gilmour is a guitarist-artist par-excellence...
