Jaki Liebezeit on Halleluwah. Although it could have more to do with what hes actually doing than the 'sound' of the drums. Nonetheless I just LOVE the drums on that song.
Have to agree with When the Levee Breaks aswell.

I hate that snare sound he gets for that song.
BUT...I believe Danny Carey (Tool) turns off his snares for certain songs. At least it sounds like it.

The secret behind it was that he took of the snare on the snare drum to create that sound. Don't ask me why.

Agreed, I think the drums in this song are perfect and nothing less. They are never once out of place. |

Grand conjuration-Opeth
The snare and double bass' IQ is very trebely, giving them a very tight sound!

I love MIchael Giles's drum production on KC's early records. My favorite drum song is probably Zeppelin's In My Time of Dying, it's great how Bonham recorded his drums. He had the drums at the bottom of a stairwell and hung microphones from various heights to capture the big sound. And a big sound he gets, jesus christ.

I would say "Time Heals" from the Peter Hammill's solo album Over. I love this full sound! And the fine playing of course ;)
Really like Bill Bruford snare sound in Yes as well... |

^ Good call ! That time signature is so unique & one that Palmer came up with. His shining glory is on Toccata & Karn Evil. So inventive and no one could touch him when he was at the top of his game.
I know it's not prog, Cozy Powell drumming on 'Rainbow Rising' was the bench mark for rock/metal drummers in the 80's & 90's.

Neil Peart's playing on The Main Monkey Business is fantastic!
And I'll agree with the others who said Bonham's playing on When The Levee Breaks is fantastic. |
