I hope they don`t butcher it I`ve loved Douglas Adams`work since THGTTG came out. Ijust don`t think they can convey the essence of the five books in the time span of 90 to 220 minutes.

It looks fun, i dont expect it to be exactly like the books or as good, i have a special hard cover edition of the series and in the forward douglas adams explains that the books were similar but distinct of the radio series, as was the short lived television run. He also explains that the script that he had at the time written for amovie was also different, just go in with an open mind and fall in love with some great characters all over again.

THAT'S.... CORRECT.

And I agree about TB2: it's a great album, very underrated in my opinion.

About LOTR: I think that movie is the best that could be done with the book.

Good to get that off your chest PP?

Actually, I agree about Hitchhikers. These books are part of the very fabric of my soul and although I'll go and see the movie without question, I'm sure I'm gonna get disappointed as well. However, just like LOTR there might be enough 'true moments' in the film to make it an enjoyable experience.

I thought they did a good job with the Hitchhikers TV series.

Of course this movie is going to suck like nothing else has sucked in the history of this or any other universe because the books are brilliant and there's no way the movie will be able to capture the individual experience of the books as they are filtered through the imagination of each reader of these wonderful books. As Stephen Fry has said: Nothing can compare to the movie in your head. Just look at the way they completely screwed up "Lord Of The Rings". From the trailer I thought Peter Jackson had pulled it off but that was before I saw Legolas skateboarding!! But that's besides the point. What I really popped in to do was answer the question: On which prog album does Alan Rickman feature, uncredited? The answer is one of my favourite albums of all time: "Tubular Bells II" which,as far as I'm concerned, has TB1 thrashed soundly into a quivering pulp.

Besided, why would Zaphod want to hide his other head in the first place? He's not that kind of alien. That's cheap.

The movie's going to suck, I know it

Judging by the "bulge" on his left shoulder there is a whole neck and head thing going on there.

At least it doesn't look as if it's about to fall off his shoulder, as it did on the TV series....

That wouldn't be so bad. The TV-series never made it here, so can't really tell... but it sounds in-keeping with the spirit of the book

I still HAVE to see the film, as I loved the radio series - and the subsequent TV series just brought it to life!

I couldn't believe how dated it all looked when I saw the TV series again on DVD - the sets were worse than Blakes 7!! (Although Blakes 7 is as entertaining as it ever was, thanks to the great story lines).

Hopefully the film will bring it up to date a bit - at least I won't be disappointed when I see the new Marvin, as I now know what to expect... although the original is going to take some beating!

Call me an old Luddite, but I still have fond memories of the original radio series and the irreplaceable Peter Jones as 'The Guide'.

But then, I do have a brain the size of a planet........

I think there are more pros: The reviews have been really good and they've said it's faithful to the book. I've read some minor criticism towards some new stuff, but let's not forget that most of the changes had been made by Douglas himself prior to his death. The project has been in development hell for years, but I think it appears to have come to a good end: the actors look the part (and sound the part: Stephen Fry as the Guide is a good choice, as well as Alan Rickman - prog connection: in wich album is he said to have had a uncredited cameo?), the budget seems to be adequate, and at it has been made by english directors (what I think was essential).

For any fans interested in this, you can read about the difficult development of this movie in the book 'The Greatest Sci Fi Movies never made', about failed fantasy projects (of course, some of them came to being after the publishing of the book some years ago, like 'Spiderman', 'Fantastic Four' or this one).

That's not Marvin - it's one of the aliens out of the Cadbury's Smash adverts, only built more cheaply...

THIS is Marvin;

I shall attempt to reserve judgement until the film is released & I can make my mind up overall - but from the short clips.............
