Hey everyone,
We hope the New Year finds all of our friends happy and well, we have a lot going in the TILES camp right now:
1."Fly Paper" comes out January 29th (goto www.tiles-music.com to pre order now)
2. We have two shows booked: First on Febuary 2nd at "Record Time" in Roseville (start time is 6:00P.M.) and March 9th at at "The Magic Bag" in Ferndale. (Doors open at 7:00 P.M. and tickets are available through ticketmaster or at the door for $10:00.) Our special guests for that evening will be...............Discipline.
3. We also have a new blog and song posted on our Myspace. It is a special edit of "Back and Forth" featuring Allanah Myles on backing vocals
4. Our brand new T-shirts will be in our hands very soon! We have two versions and both are killer!!!!!!!
Take care everyone and we hope to see everyone soon! Your TILES team |
I received the above message from Tiles for anybody in the Michigan area that would be interested in seeing them or their opening act Discipline live. I'm not familiar with Discipline, but ironically Avestin had an aside about them in one of his new polls today. |
For Discipline alone it is worth going!!! They have reformed and will also appear in Nearfest X this year.
Anyway, I like Tiles, but Fly Paper is disappointing to me; too bad, cause to me they can do so much better. Their previous albums show it. Presents of Mind and Fence The Clear are very good.

I've been meaning to get some of their stuff for about a year now, this would be probably give me a reason to finally start in on that.

There are some interesting and impressive guest appearances on the album.
Can't wait to hear it.

Listened to Fly Paper last night on Progscape...
WOW! Tiles is back and better than ever! Dragons Dreams was fantastic and the tune with Alex Lifeson really rocked. The whole band was very tight and so smooth that you really dont notice how complex some of the parts are. Paul's voice seems to have a smoother more mature tone but just as powerfull as on Presents of Mind and Chris's playing was also great. The bass and drums were very tight. Great to hear Mark Evans back on the skins. He smokes the last drummer, much more groove and way better technique.

The following is taken from the Tiles website at http://www.tiles-music.com/tiles.php:
April 18, 2007
We are pleased to announce that the 5th Tiles CD finally has a title.... "Fly Paper" ... and a tentative track listing:
1) In My Shadow 2) Sacred & Mundane 3) Back & Forth 4) Landscrape 5) Markers 6) Dragons, Dreams, and Daring Deeds 7) Crowded Emptiness 8) Hide & Seek
Coming up with a title always seems to be a challenge - but this time around it was especially difficult (dare we say "sticky?")... We had brainstormed about a hundred ideas - finally narrowing it down to two of the song titles ("Markers" & "Hide in My Shadow") - then happened upon a couple new options that we liked better ("Fly Paper" and "Stumbling Blocks") - ultimately deciding upon "Fly Paper" with the help of Hugh Syme and Terry Brown (and a market survey of friends). Hugh has already started putting together some interesting ideas for the artwork - and I suspect we'll steer clear of too many "insect" references.
In other news.... we are excited to announce that Alannah Myles has contributed a "choir's-worth" of backing vocals to "Back & Forth" (the Beatles would be proud!). Terry mixed Alannah's new CD "Black Velvet" - which will be released in June - so we took advantage of the connection and she accepted (lucky us!). There are a few more notable special guests lurking in the background - all courtesy of Terry - but we'll save those announcements for another time...
We'll finish up the remaining lead guitar, percussion, keyboards, and backing vocals during the next month and a half - including appearances from a few of our friends: Sonya Mastick (percussion); Matthew Parmenter (keyboards); and Kevin Chown (fretless bass cameo). We'll mix in June with a tentative release date for "Fly Paper" still set for Fall 2007.
