Topic: see who has rated an album Posted: April 30 2007 at 06:57 |

I agree with you. ''reviews in english only'' is serious problem. Though I write this article in English, I can't review any albums by the language. You may not be able to believe me but I can't speak English at all. This is the reason why I rate without reviews.

I'm for showing who has rated an album. But I've probably rated 50 albums and only 9 or 10 of them probably have reviews? Why? I simply have nothing to say about that album. I listen to it a few times, then simply decide how much I like it. I only usually type a review if there's something interesting aboutt the album, or it is the first review.

Do you know how many languages they speak in The Netherlands? Check the "Happy Birthday" message board posted by Erik!
Anyway, imagine the amount of reviews in several languages dominating the mainpage while the Translation Team is still managing to translate some of them... |
My idea would be that the review would be submitted to the translation team before it was posted.
|
My idea is exactly that. Perhaps writting guidelines in at least 5 languages, explaining how to work it, and put links to the translators for each language so they could access to them and send private messages with their original reviews (including name of the album/band).
Of course there would be times when one collaborator has saturated while others receive none; so that one collaborator transfers some of his' to another. However as far as reviews reporting just read few cases, so perhaps it won't be such as burden as originally thought

I agree about the translation team thing. It would be better than ratings without reviews. I would offer to help but my Spanish is somewhat bad even though I took two years and got an A in the class...

a translation team is surely much better than ratings without review

It would be better than what is available now, which is nothing. At least people who don't speak English would have the opportunity to post a review.

There shouldn't be a translation team.
just issue those reviews in a foreign language and hide the content and regard it as a raing without review, just make it accesible through a link from the albums page.
so if wanted these reviews can be seen if really wanted. and else the ratings is at least accepted.

Hey well at least there are four spanish-speaking guys, about 2 or 3 brazilian-speaking guys (perhaps Tarciso Moura or however his name's spelled would help, as well as akin), some few english speaking guys and italian speakers.
I think if we reunite people who can help the idea can be realised
But I'm just thinking out loud. The idea obviously needs to be discussed/refined

Well, how about this. Members that don't speak english can submit a review in their native language. It will then be translated by someone who speaks both. I believe we have just about every language represented by people who also speak english. Heck, Mandrakeroot is even writing his reviews in English now.

I think it was already discussed and M@X chose to keep the ratings
without reviews just to the people who cannot write in English have the
write to voice their opinions.
But tracking the reviews without ratings could be useful even if it is
just for some special collab or admin who would try to detect reviewers
that gave the same pattern of reviews to all albums of an artist (like
1 star) and delete them.
Many times I was checking a discography of a rather unknown band (with
4, 5 ratings) and noticed that there were in all albums a review
without rating rating 2 stars, for example, so I think these ratings
are not appropriated.

^ I don't care. This website is about writing reviews in the English language ... it's the core feature.

Same here. I'd even say: delete all existing ratings without review and don't allow any new ones.
