Don't play it live any more!

Can't agree with you Froth live they are as outstanding as ever.Material wise they have grossly dissapointed for two decades.For me Magnification could have been a very good Yes album had they given Steve much more scope.In my dreams i am hoping the time off they have taken will deliver a new audacious studio album.As for starting with oldies I'm all for that 'Astral traveller and Then would do me.

Well, I could say the same thing about my favorite band, Kansas, playing Carry on Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind at their concerts.  But the fact is, lots of people go to shows because they want to hear the hits, so you have to play them.  You can't blame the band, because they do need to make a living.

I'd rather hear that than "Closer To The Heart" or anything from the first two albums like "In The Mood" or "Fly By Night"!

I'm not saying I wouldn't want to hear these songs. I just feel bands should do it as a favor to themselves. Playing the same two or three songs every night has to be extremely tedious. Eventually it gets to a point where they play through the song without any passion at all.

Some bands play the favorites, but change the arrangement.  I really liked the "Roundabout" version they played live on a tour a few years ago; it was an acoustic version done with a 6/8-time, jazzy rhythm.  I also have a version of  Tull's "Living In The Past" with a different arrangement (Ian even mentions in the introduction that they had to change it because they were sick of playing it the same old way).  There are many ways to keep the old chestnuts fresh in concert (play it slower, play it faster, use different instruments, add harmonies that weren't on the original, make it quieter, make it louder); I don't understand why more bands don't do this, for the sake of their own sanity, if for no other reason......

I plan on seeing Rush this summer, and if I don't hear "Tom Sawyer", then I won't be disappointed. I know they'll play it as it's one of their most popular tunes, but I'd rather hear something else. As a previous poster said, I'd rather hear "The Camera Eye".

I'm pretty sure Fripp retired all KC material from previous eras, and almost everything from Thrak too - I think they only play One Time on the Eyes Wide Open live thingy

Generally, the de facto Marillion should stay far, far away from most, if not all of the songs from the Fish era, as it just sounds... wrong, with Hogarth on the vocals. It's almost like hearing [insert high school band here] does 80s Marillion. The only exception would be Garden Party, which they play quite nicely.

Spock's Beard - no more "Waste Away" please... It's possibly the most overplayed SB song of them all, although it's still way better than what they've been able to offer recently =P
