It has to be said 1966 was one of the greatest years in music. 'Blonde On Blonde', 'Pet Sounds', 'Aftermath', 'Revolver', 'Fifth Dimension', 'Roger The Engineer' (The Yardbirds) 'Freak Out' and 'Bluesbreakers With Eric Clapton' all came out in 1966. They were pioneering in different ways- 'Pet Sounds' made pop more intricate, 'Aftermath' was a template for all subsequent garage rock bands like The Chocolate Watch Band, 'Roger The Engineer' and 'Fifth Dimension' were amongst the earliest albums to have a flavour of prog, 'Bluesbreakers With Eric Clapton' heralded in a new wave of guitar player, 'Blonde On Blonde' was rock at its most literate, 'Freak Out' was rock at its weirdest, plus lest we forget, both 'Blonde..' and 'Freak..' had probably the earliest side long songs on a rock album.

However, The Beatles' 'Revolver' is perfect in every way- the playing, the production, the vocals, the arrangements- the most perfect a rock album had ever gotten up to then.

Well, no questions, just a response; it's a very good album, but I need more edge and angst. I go with Revolver, mainly for the Lennon stuff -- "Tomorrow Never Knows" "She said, She said" "And Your Bird Can Sing" "I'm Only Sleeping" "Dr. Robert." And of course that great Harrison tune "Love to You."

My god, I gotta go play that album....
