My favorite animes are Neon Genesis Evangelion, Trigun, Lupin III, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and Excel Saga, although I've seen / I watch others. I also own the soundtrack to a few of the shows; a lot of the music is surprisingly "progressive" in nature, especially the Trigun soundtrack (which is actually composed by the guitarist from Japanese RIO band Tipographica - look 'em up on this site!).

I recently also started a band (consisting of a shifting lineup of 10 people), and among other things, we're learning many anime and video game tunes to play at a local anime convention later this year (in June). Hopefully, if all goes well, we'll play it and get a recording too, which I could post online.

For any prog fans who haven't looked into anime yet: a lot of it is pretty banal and predictable. However, in equal measure are shows of actual artistic merit. Trigun, Evangelion, FLCL, and Excel Saga are very "progressive" (Trigun and Evangelion are more "traditional" allegorical materials, while FLCL and Excel Saga are more dadaist and surreal - FLCL still retains an allegorical storyline, while Excel Saga is pure absurdism).

Not a fan, I just enjoy some old ones like Ranma and my favourite of all time: Saint Seiya, even a friend who hate anime love this one. Dragon Ball Z is kinda anoying for me in these days, I also like Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin(Samurai X), Spirited Away, the kind of stuff semejant to the old school.

I used to watch Naruto every week, and I also watched quite a lot of Dragonball Z. I grew tired though, it just didn't excite me that much anymore, I guess. It was great fun while I still watched though.

I'm -slightly- old-school, in the sense that I haven't seen anything that recent.

For anime, I really like Ranma 1/2, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Kino's Journey, Boogiepop Phantom, and Serial Experiments Lain, not to mention Neon Genesis Evangelion. Oh, I -have- seen a newish one, Ouran High School is good. And yes. Gravitation, My Sexual Harassment, Fake, and Level C.

Manga, hmm... there's a lot of that I like. Any of the above that have manga, except for Bebop, that manga sucked. Addicted To Curry, the extended Fake series, Eerie Queerie (shut up ), and a billion others that escape my mind because I just woke up.

cliche'd, cliche'd, and um...cliche'd.....plus the title character is just an annoying little f**k...that's my opinion though, not insulting people who like itTongue

edit: the english character dubbing of the character Naruto has an annoying voice, if you all watch in different languages then it could make a difference

I dunno, I guess I don't like action based anime

I've never understood the fascination with hentai either. What is real is not supposed to turn a person on, and I can't believe there are people who prefer this over genuine eroticism.

can someone help me to repeat this post in antimatter form? Ouch

I like Serial Experiments Lain, Noir, BoogiePop Phantom and Vampire Princess Miyu. y'know, the interesting stuff without goofy jokes I don't understand because of the massive culture divide.

I kind of want to get into manga. I like anime in certain ways, but not entirely. It's just daunting. I'm also considering how much of a geek I'm comfortable being. I already like prog, anime, and video games, and maybe taking the leap into manga will kill me.

I'm not even really sure what anime or manga are exept asian style cartoons.

But when I was little I always watched Gundam Wings (is that anime? or manga? what's the difference between the two?)

And I really liked the movie Jin Roh too.

Manga is the comic books, anime is the animated cartoon form.

Youngsters?!? I don't think you can blow it off as just that. In fact, in Japan, adults buy far more manga than children, and read it with huge followings.
And cartooning is a legitimate artform, speaking as a cartoonist myself, you will never know how valuable, insightful, and artful a comic can be until you actually try to make one yourself. You see how easy it is to make a good one, then get back to me.

I like Naruto and Paranoia Agent. I liked S-Cry-Ed, but that's not on anymore.

I draw comic books in the manga style myself too, and not just those stupid drawings everyone draws and thinks they are good at. I respect the genre as probably the best hybrid of realistic and cartoony drawing styles.

What is that exactly Debby? Wink

I'm sure nobody knows. You should explain to us. We're all eager of knowing. Wink
In Japanese, the word hentai is a kanji compound of 変 (hen meaning "change" or "strange") and 態 (tai meaning "attitude" or "appearance"),
Tongue

It doesn't really relate to the actual hentais LOL
