Mine too! It is totally awesome, both vocally and instrumentally. But KE9 comes a very close second...

Tarkus for me ... I never lose interest in any part of it ... even though KE9 probably has more variations, there are also parts where I lose interest ... sometimes

The proof of Tarkus's superiority lies in the results of the poll.
While polls cannot be truly guaged here, I cannot see why anyone would be so obsessed with pushing one song over the other...since we're arguing the same band afterall.

This is an outragious poll ok!
Brain salad surgery was a an album to me that advanced the bands style years over night...I do listern to BSS a hell of a lot more than i do Tarkus, but have a kinda preference to Tarkus, not in a one better than the other way but i feel the BSS recording pretty poor compared to the older albums that kinda irritates me a bit.But @ the end of the day i'm not gonna compare no way..

Karn Evil 9 is a much grander idea that explores a futuristic theme in 3 movements.Tarkus is a series of peices.By it's nature it's disjointed. The sum of the parts are not greater IMO.I'm genuinely surprised at some of the comments and the current poll result.I was getting a tad 'bored' with Tarkus even in my teens. It should be highly regarded of course as a ground breaking peice but KE9 has stood the test of time a lot better IMO.

Anyways back to the topic..To me Karn Evil sounds like many songs all related to each other. Maybe there are 3 different topics on Tarkus, but Tarkus sounds like one complete piece, compared to many parts piecemealed together and lumped as one song. They wouldn't have given 8 impressions if it flowed like a standard song, now would they? |
Where'd 8 impressions come from?
Battlefield sounds nothing like Aquatarkus that comes afterwards... even less than the 2nd Impression sounds like the 3rd. The 3 Impressions are impressions of one song... no separate name or title... whereas the songs of Tarkus have completely different names... The first impression has 2 separate musical ideas that make up 1 Impression which sets the state of change thruout the piece..
However my love KE9 is probably based on the fact that since the BSS Tour, I've seen Tarkus performed at nearly every concert. But after that tour.. they never did the entire 3 Impressions together again. Just the 1st one. But watching all 3 Impressions done on the BSS tour, is one of the most spectacular things I've ever seen...

Tarkus for me. I could listen to that all the time. Greg's voice is perfect throughout that whole song. Stones of Years is such an awesome section of that song the organ, bass and drums are all so perfect. An amazing track, I love the armadillo tank too, I think thats the coolest thing.

Sweet shirt Reed Lover... although don't you think a bra would make it look better?
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Aquatarkus as a reason why they like
that epic better. I love that synth solo!! With the more rounded wah
synth sound in the right speaker and the more distorted one in the left
(if you hadn't noticed that check it out, its cool) and the slow
military drum cresendo... pure awesomeness.
