Ever heard of a band called Genesis?
|
Yep... I know that.. I just meant that none of the other stations on
Live 365 name their genre stations by a code name... like the rest are
:british rock, todays hits..etc...
Unless of course the guy who assembles the track list for this
specific station just happens to be a big Genesis fan... but it makes
it hard to find when your looking per genre... |
BTW 3F, I'll be tuning into the stations you mentioned over this weekend.

I downloaded the named file just about an hour ago - after reading this thread, that is.
Arguably, it's a file that has to be downloaded once in order to hear the radio, but once only.
As soon as there's a piece that doesn't sound interesting (e.g. too
metal for my taste) I'd log off it and then get it back on - so I can
tell whether it has to be downloaded more on multiple occasions.
I do suppose that is just a file that enables the streaming "between" the provider of the radio and an individual's comp.
I did a virus and bot check on my comp while (edit: I said on the file,
but that wasn't the case) using it (and it was ok), so I see no problem
with it.
I understand completely why you don't want it before you know what it is...

I mean how many stations would play Pete Sinfield's "Still" w/ Greg Lake .... as Live365 is playing right now....
However Live365 will give you ads.. not many, but they are there.... where Starsteam has no ads at all... just continuous music...
|
Do i have to download anything to use the starstream thing?
|
No! And the best thing about Starstream is they have a whats playing now page that shows you up to date whats playing.. and the 10 or so tracks they played before listed by Song Title, Artist and Album... so you always no whats on!!
Cool... Live365 is playing Renaissance "Carpet of the Sun" now....
|
When I click "listen" it wants me to download a file : "listen.pls" what is it?
|
I don't know.. when I click listen it gives me a selection of speeds and then it brings up my real player software to play off of. At home it brings up my Jukebox software to play off of. Maybe you don't have a media player that its use to dealing with.

You've probably forgot what happened on your initial visit to the site,3F's.
I have Realplayer,WinAmp etc etc. I dont like downloading files that I cant verify.
Anyone else here gone to the site recently?

i really like Starstream, it plays the most diverse prog (80 percent or so ive never heard), its a great place to revisit old classics and to discover new bands, but most of all: its not a pain in the ass like some of the other sites. There is no signup, no advertisements; just continuous music. Good on em'!

Has BBC Radio 6, found any room for prog rock - as the controller of BBC Radio claimed when DAB was unveiled several years ago?
I have to blow my own trumpet (especially now our server is sorted), check out my radio show Alternative Alternative Show, 8pm to 11pm GMT (BST from the end of March) on Thursday night. The title of the show because I try to avoid the usual music heard on "youth-oriented radio" and as a result gained the largest listenship on radio station - i.e. the 18 to 24 years old music crowd is far more eclectic than BBC makes out (say from Radio One). Don't expect an exclusive prog rock show for 3 hours, but as a flavour of tomorrow night's show:
Far Corners, Touch, Parallel Or 90 Degree, Govt. Mule, The Black Keys, Jo MacGregor (our own recording artist), Patrick O'Heanr, Jerry Goodman, Jan Hammer, The Muffins, (celebrate their lives and music), Dick Heckstall-Smith and Kevin Coyne etc.
.e. the blues, jazz, jazz roick, prog, some folk and some raid of the rock obscurities in the archives.
Sooner or later the show will be regularly recorded and webarchived - already have a significant US listenership but with complaints that they have to have the show on when at work. Webarchive might be in operation again in a few weeks, however, starting with 2 and half hours of music and chat with Krimson biographer Sid Smith - greater raconteur, and an 20 minute interview with Gary Husband about Force Majeure. In talks with Chad Wackerman (Zappa, Holdsworth etc) about a phone interview in next few weeks (he has just released his 4th album) - and after confirmation I will be requesting topics to discuss here. BTW if Threefates can use her good contacts, I would love both Greg Lake and Carl Palmer to be on the show - one of Mr Palmer's children is a student here.

and follow the simple instructions. I like to talk off-air during the show - so use the e.mail link here. Requests most certainly taken, but played the following week if available.

Live365 just played "Have a Cigar" and now its playing all of Genesis "The Musical Box"
The only problem playing this at work is keeping it at a level that won't piss off everyone else in the office.... Prog doesn't tend to be monotoned....
