I'm for NY in most things, but I do love Chicago-style deep dish. Is Pizzeria Due still around, gdub? Best darn pizza I ever had.

It was bad enough when they lost head chef Gabriel, but when the sous chef Hackett left to open his own restaurant (using mostly the same recipes, but with a much less rich result) forcing the rest of the kitchen crew to promote the scullery maid to head chef.... well, the new menu was OK for a while, but the spark went, the electricity was cut off, and they were last seen flogging dodgy burgers, guaranteed to cause bowel irritation and violent sickness.

Pizza! Yes, delectable, but, is it really the toppings themselves or the person who adds the pepperoni to the pie? Imagine, if you will, Keith Emerson, dropping large fat fingered handfuls of mozzarella cheese all over the place, while balancing on spinning Hammond. Adding the classic spices, oregano, a touch of basil or chive. Personally, I would prefer Rick Wakeman's approach, a touch of curry, some moogy cheddar and a slice or two of mello Jack cheese and performing all these culinary functions whilst wearing a flowing technicolor cape.

Of course, all the BEST pizzas were baked in the 1970's. Todays pizzas are cheap copies, derivative of the original bakers. Sure, you can add sushi and anchovies, spinach and jalapenos, or even Oreos and Fromunda, but they all pale in comparison to the pizzas made by the big 5. Even the taste of the Genesis pizzas changed after Peter Gabriel left, they added too much cheese and plugged the bowels of progholes everywhere. Can anyone suggest a good prog-lax supplement?

Enough, I have to sit down and devour another thirty year old pizza that I just re-discovered and, boy, am I hungry!

The Japanese have a bizarre approach to pizza - sweetcorn on everything and combinations of toppings like you wouldn't believe (if it's got too many eyes and chewy tentacles they'll throw it on there). I also heard about, but never actually saw with my own eyes, white chocolate pizza.

Is pizza prog? Well, it originated in Italy, as did PFM, Banco and an enormous prog scene. Van Der Graaf Generator were treated like gods there. That settles the argument for me.

(Pizza aside, most Japanese food is excellent.)

Actually its a worldwide fact that NYC has the best pizza... even most of my friends from Chicago agree.

However, I'm originally from North Carolina.. so I prefer Pizza Hut.

(Meatlovers pizza with the cheese in the crust)

That reminds me of a Christmas joke:

Good King Wenceslas has been rushing around preparing for the Feast of Steven, or at least, ordering his servants around to do the preparation for him...

Anyway, it's the night before the feast, and he's famished - so he phones up the local Pizza delivery place to order a pizza.

The delivery guy recognises his voice straight away, and asks "Will that be the usual, your majesty?"

"Yes", replies Wenceslas with a broad grin;

"Deep pan, crisp and even..."

(*comedy drum roll*)

Well I have the distinct pleasure in living in the mecca of Pizzadom. Chicago Style Pizza is the best there is and Lou Malnati's is the best Chicago Style Pizza.

The rest of you poor saps live the 3rd world when it comes to pizza.
