Topic: Rain And Tears Vs Night In White Satin Vs Posted: July 23 2006 at 01:05 |
Being "Rain and tears" partially copied from a Pachebel's canon and "A whiter shade of pale" with parts taken from Bach's Air On A G String, my vote goes to the (apparently) more original score: "Nights in white satin".

"A Whiter..." is, simply put, one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Again A Whiter Shade of Pale, Nights is an overrated ballad IMO and nothing Aphrodite's Child did before 666 is in a high level.

A whiter shade of pale, just before Nights in white satin (both 9/10).
Rain and tears does not appeal to me - maybe because I was a teenager
when Demis Roussos scored a sequence of #1 hits in Holland with his
awful solo songs.

Yeah, what RycheMan said. A Whiter Shade of Pale is the famous song that virutually no one ever pays attention to the lyrics. Ask 9 out of 10 people what the song's about and they'll just tell you they like it, but have no idea what it's about. Besides, it has a lot more soul than Nights in White Satin.

A whiter shade of pale is just a tiny bit better than Nights in white satin. It probably wins at the end of the day because of the interesting lyrics.

A Whiter Shade Of Pale. No one has ever heard of 'Rain and Tears' and 'Nights in White Satin' is kind of bland to my ears.

From a historical point of view, A White Shade of Pale is more innovative, important and influential. However, Nights in White Satin is probably slightly more "immortal," if I understand how that word is being used.
Peace.

Poll question: Which is MORE immortal? Is there an immortality scale?
From the three I prefer Nights in White Satin...
