Aerosmith, Bad Company, and Chicago (when they were still good) from this list. A lot of the bands here belong to my, rocked in the '70s / sucked in the 80's, list.

what a mess in this list. First of all: what is "melodic rock"? AOR?
Vote for Whitesnake, that is a hard rock band, as Aerosmith, Bad Co. and, erghh, Styx.

Boston. I don't see Aerosmith as a melodic rock band though, rather a hard rock band.

Heart. Their two first albums are great. Aerosmith in the 70's are good too.

I've never been a big fan of melodic rock, but here I voted for Whitesnake - who are, in many respects, much the same case as Aerosmith. They became a "melodic rock" (some say hair metal... ) band with the "1987" album, though before that they were a lean, mean hard-rock-blues band with strong British roots. I saw them live at Donington in 1983, and they smoked! The late, great Cozy Powell was on drums, and on bass they had the celebrated Colin Hodgkinson of Back Door fame (not to mention the legendary Jon Lord on keys...). That was the Whitesnake I loved, not the bleached, big-haired guys who released "1987" (which is quite a good album nonetheless).

Easily Styx, The Grand Illusion is an absolute masterpiece.

Overall, I'd say Boston.
I really like Chicago, but only their first 5 albums- after that they were stupid. Foreigner and Styx are great as well.

How familiar are you guys with Aerosmith?
Back in their heyday in the 70's when they ruled arenas everywhere they played some mean blues rock.
I don't think of them as melodic rock, but I also have never paid much attention to any of their later output since Night in the Ruts.

This shouldn't be in this forum, as these are not prog bands. I really don't know... Maybe.. either Boston or Bad Company

Man, there is some real garbage on that list.
Boston, Aerosmith, Toto, Bad Company and Tom Petty are the only ones I like.
Of those 5 - Boston.

Journey would have to be mine. I put in Escape or Frontiers and I'm instantly transported to the early 80's. I know this decade takes some viscious hits from the members of PA, but it's really a great era for music.
The Cars are another favorite of mine.

Of these I choose Aerosmith, but I don't consider them as "melodic rock". Their classic albums are simply rock and roll or hard rock.

Bad Company must be REAL good, they're in there twice.
I voted for Styx, by the way.
