^ what you're writing suggests that you simply don't know his experimental works ... am I right? e.g. Flexable, Flexable-Leftovers, Ultra Zone, Reflections ...

Yeah, he has some pretty prog moments, for example the extremely complex and thrilled "Fire Garden Suite", a great song, BTW! Clap
Also, his music is different from non-prog, because there's a lot of virtuosism and experimentation, I mean, all his music precises a lot of experimentation, BUT not being experimental itself. Don't know if I expressed it correctly. Here in the archives I agree with his classification (Prog Related), because he isn't Prog Metal or any other genre listed here, since on this site doesn't exist the so called "Guitarist album" genre.

He's on the site as Prog Related, which I think is a pretty good description of his music (that is, slightly Prog).

Steve Vai is an Alien on the guitar. How can you NOT classify him as progressive.

^ surely not coincidence. It's just an idea that he had ... I think it's explained in the booklet of the CD.

and the most beautiful album for me is 7th song,, have u heard that??

To be honest - I can't stand a whole album of Vai ballads. But Call it Sleep is really cool - and one of his most experimental ballads.

why?? the best part about it is the beauty, with great skills, dont get me wrong again, its not all about skills... My fave is Hand On Heart... Smile

I prefer his full albums ... I generally prefer to listen to full albums, not compilations of single songs. I like contrast, diversity ... Fire Garden is a beautiful album, and while I like Hand on Heart, it's not my favorite Vai ballad. I enjoy listening to it, but I enjoy it even more when I know that after that the Fire Garden Suite will be coming up, then Deepness, Little Alligator, Brother ... Big smile
