Topic: Symphonic, Italian Symphonic or... Posted: April 11 2006 at 10:47 |
Haven't a clue what this is about........
What are sub-genres of 'Symphonic Prog'? Are you really saying that 'Symphonic Classic Music' (I take it you mean the Beethovens & Stravinskys of this world or have I missed something?) is a sub-genre of a sub-genre of 'Prog' (or is it 'Prog Rock' or even 'Progressive' .......). It's a joke, yes?
I hate labels, but I do find them useful in a general broad-view sense. So, I find it convenient to use the term 'Prog' (or similar) because it usefully lumps together a sizeable proportion of my favourite musicians. That's why I frequent this site. But I also like some Classical music, and Folk, World, and even some Pop. As labels go that is sufficient for me. I can understand why some people like to separate, for example, the classic stuff from the 70s (seemingly called Symphonic Prog now) from something like 'Prog Metal'.
Let's face it - it is clearly difficult enough to define what is or isn't 'Prog' in the broader sense let alone doing it at the sub-sub-genre level.

I do REALLY love symphonic prog, believe me, but I think that ITALIAN SYMPH PROG has most of the important, trascendental, historical, beautiful, magical, superb and wonderful pieces that I ever heard... My vote goes for the Italians...

In the Revisited Symphonic Music I include all those band than Riarranged Classic Music song.
I believe that whoever listen to Mozart and understand Mozart not cannot admit that was Prog. If it am listened to Richard Wagner am listened to a primordial one (I said primordial!!!) Prog Metal.
It is not perhaps true?
