I'm a drummer too and I play in what is basically a cover band. We cover Zeppelin/Purple/Hendrix mainly, but we've also done some Yes and a few King Crimson tracks. I have to say that playing Kc is a very rewarding experience (especially stuff from the Bruford/Wetton era) and I would really like to play original music resembling Kc or maybe VdGG. But I'd also favour something along the lines of Fates Warning or Gordian Knot. Oh, well... Daydreaming can't do any harm, can it?

No one knows what the purpose of it originally was or if it had a purpose at all. Personally I think it was a pure artistic creation from the beginning.

I'm a drummer...
My style will be... Progressive Rock Elements mixture of Rush, Pink Floyd, Genesis, and a touch of King Crimson + Progressive Video Game Music like The Black Mages + Complexity like Dream Theater, IQ, Side project Bozzio, Levin and Stevens + Instrumental Jazz/Funk like Victor Wooten's solo and Steve Smith's Vital Information + Stronger Melody than U2 + More Concept Songs bigger than movie's OST and Pink Floyd's Concept album! Its ambitious isn't it? |

At the moment I havnt a clue as to what style I would want to play as i'm a fan of a lot of prog styles. Some days I would play metal, others symphonic and the rest would probably be Art or neo.

I play in a band and do all the music...prog of course
And my goal is to do something that can combine Anglagard and Muse...and I think I have achieved it with a 17 minutes epic suite...which in fact sounds nothing like them individually...but that´s what I was aming for!!!... I will also keep on making darker and more complex music... My dream band would have me as guitarist and viola player (yes, I play viola) and composer of course, my friend Dr Evil (who is a member of this site) in bass (as he currently is in the band), a killer jazz drummer in the line of Andy Ward of Camel (we have a drummer but...well you can always improv right?), a singer/keyboardist (nothing spectacular...more in a Wright or Banton way)...and a cello player...I love the cello!!! Once we record the album we are aiming for (we have all the songs done, the drummer just needs to learn them) I will make sure you hear about them...if you are interested... |

I would like to play in a band with two pianos or keyboards (me and another guy) with me singing. Add a bass, a drum and a wind-instrumentalist and this band would be perfect for me.
Don't know why but the only really important things for me are 2 pianos, a bass and drums. Guitars would be could but not essential in my dream band. |

I'd love to be in a band that put schizophrenia into music but also
made it beautiful and elegant and resemble classical music with the
same uses of timbre etc.
So basically, VDGG/Genesis/Gentle Giant/Hatfield and The North... that would indeed be awesome. |

If I'd form a band wich I'll probably be forced to do I'd require:
a guitar player (that would be me) - natural/semi-acoustic a sax player - alto sax favored a keyboard player - piano/synths if needed a bass player - bass guitar/contrabass a drummer - any kind of drums we can think of a singer (if none of the above can handle it) - high male/female The players will be required to have classical or jazz musical education. I'm hoping the music to be very classical oriented and natural "symphonic" prog. I'm quite influenced by Hackett era Genesis but that doesn't mean the others have to be. I play guitar and I have a GR20 guitar synth (Great fun).
I tend to make stuff by myself on my computer because there are so few prog playing musicians I know in Oz. Have played in a big band and blues duo in my time as well... |

Neo classical/power/prog metal or jazz fusion. But I'd probably try any style of music (almost).

Beisdes, Celtic is my favorite genre of music other than prog: 1. Prog And if you'd recall, Cyg, my post in the Concept Album: Write Your Own thread (I think that's the one), I have already a nice concept going. I'm just waiting for my theory and songwriting skills to be up to par. I can play well, just not incedibly fast, though I am getting better. And when I mention Radiohead, that is speaking solely of Hail to the Theif, specifically "Go to Sleep," "Where I End, You Begin," and "There, There." So overall, my type of music would be close to that of "And Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess" with a Celtic vibe and pieces of Arabic throughout, with mainly a Pendragon/Pink Floyd/Petrucci solo guitar style. The Saens influence would likely extend to the Arabic/World influences. |

I'd like to play tuned percussion; vibes, xylophone, marimba, etc.
I dream of having a small band consisting of a cello/double bass/saw player, a drummer/percussionist, a keyboardist and myself fronting. We'd be a kind of complicated comedy jazz spoken word avant-prog beast of a band. We'd sell a total of four albums. |
