Arguably the most influential: The Shadows!! How many guitarists picked up the guitar and twanged out Apache before going to bigger & better things? At Fender's tribute to Hank Marvin, Jeff Beck and Eric Claptonalpton amongst many others did the honours, also check out the review at: http://users.tkk.fi/~khagelbe/rory/jf/Dino.html Check out the tribute abum to the Shadows & Hank Marvin, Twang and you will find Neil Young, Randy Bachmann , Peter Green and many others recorded Shadows covers.

For me the best non-prog bands of the '60 are: 1. The Doors (should be recognized as proto-prog!) 2. Creedence Clearwater Revival 3. Jimi Hendrix Experience
