if you really...really like King Crimson, Tull, and Genesis... take a walk on the 'wild side'..
check out some Italian prog, which those 3 heavily influenced, if unfazed by lyrics you don't understand but with GREAT vocals.. and some of the best music you'll ever hear. If interested... ANDREW has a mega list of albums to check out hahahah . Warning though.... it can lead to addiction... and corresponding excessive credit card usage. |

Threshold is a terrific band I've recently gotten into; can't believe I forgot about them! I own Hypothetical, Critcial Mass, and Subsurface. Of these Hypothetical is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of these three. Some of the earlier records which have gotten good reviews are their first "Wounded Land" and "Clone", among others, but I don't have these so I can't give you an opinion. Pagan's Mind is a name that keeps cropping up in these prog-metal threads; I'll have to check them out for myself! I'm also beginning to get into Spock's Beard and Flower Kings, so (as another poster mentioned) I'd say to check them out as well. Ever feel like there's too much music? |

Spiral Architect, Fates Warning, Zero Hour, Indukti, Green Carnation, Anekdoten, Anglagard, Novact, Pantommind, and Uriah Heep. Everyone needs a little variation.

I downloaded mp3s from the bands NaturalScience and HamHam recommended and the ones that I liked were Circus Maximus, Pagan's Mind, and Threshold. Many of the bands didn't have websites or mp3s though. I still haven't gotten around to the other recommendations. Maybe you can make even more recommendations based on the 3 bands above ^

Lot's of good suggestions there, especially those from NaturalScience and hamham, all great choices. There is also a new band out there that is starting to raise some eyebrows and turn some heads. They have been getting great reviews and are currently at the top of the weekly best bands on www.progressiverockbr.com They have also been getting a lot of buzz on PlanetCrimson and some of the other progressive forums as well. The band is Variant and their only CD is Beyond Jargon. Based on your list of artists and what I'm hearing, you are likely to enjoy 'em. Not sure how widely available they are, but they are available at CDBaby, where you can also hear short samples: So if you're looking for something a little different, you might want to check them out. |

I'm in a pretty big Amon Duul II phase right now, so I recommend you get some of their stuff, esp. the "Live In London" CD, which is blowing my mind these days.

well, those are probably the two best songs on the Yes album. personally i'd try "Fragile" next and see what you think of that. if it's successful move on to "Close to the Edge" and definitely "Relayer". btw, I just heard "Next Profundis" by Adagio on last.fm and it is really outstanding. i think they're going to be on my next purchase list. |

Genesis is on my list (I own Foxtrot and Selling England By the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and Nursery Cryme are on my list of albums to get..) and I have tried Yes (The Yes Album) but I didnt like it that much except for Yours Is No Disgrace and Starship Trooper, I should probably get Close To the Edge but it keeps getting pushed down on my list of albums to get lol.. norbert88 |
