As Tony says, they were one of the best heavy rock bands to walk the face of the earth in the 1970s; 'Force It', 'Lights Out' and 'Obsession' are among my all time fave albums ever. Sadly, nothing I've heard since these Schenker years have been anywhere as musically interesting (they were reduced to dumb songs like 'When It's Time To Rock' by the 80s), and his solo career has had some great highs and lows. Never heard their early albums, but even the band themselves dismissed them as being 'best forgotten' at one point. It would be a huge curveball to even think of adding the band though I reckon... |

UFO were an absolutely brilliant rock band-one of my all time favourites.Anyone who likes 70s hard rock should check out "Obssession", "Phenomenom","Lights Out" and the live album "Strangers In The Night" Strangers In The Night is one of the greatest live albums of all time IMO. The first three albums are meandering "oddities" and whilst tentatively Space Rock-ish,even a prog-related designation would leave us open to hoots of derision. If we could just add certain albums,in a "various/miscellaneous" section then maybe, but failing that:NO!! Great, great band during the Michael Schenker years though!

UFO 2 - Flying ...it's not as bad as I had thought, actually, but nothing too special. I agree with the 'space rock' label, though. |

An excellent argumen put forward by Andrew, and a great deal of work has obviously gone into his submission - however, on a personal level, I cannot see UFO as progressive rock (although the definition of PR is purely subjective).

I've not the early stuff, but what I have heard is pretty much rock and not really "prog". As much as I like them, I don't really see a place for them here. That'll save Snowy a bit of work. |

The first two albums presented above and the following live albums are space rock, but the rest of the albums in the later 70's are hard rock destined for FM radio airplay. |

Could you give us a break from band suggestions Andrew? The list is ever growing, but the reduction of the list is much slower.
