UNICORN DIGITAL Presents Carl Palmer at the Medley TICKETS ON SALE RIGHT NOW!
It is with great honor and pleasure that we invite you to celebrate 35 years of Emerson, Lake & Palmer with The Carl Palmer Band, on Saturday, May 27 2006 at the Medley (1170 St-Denis Street, Montreal).
Carl Palmer, the rhythmic backbone of progressive rock's first supergroup, has been hailed as one of the world's greatest drummers, thrilling rock fans worldwide with his dazzling speed and technical virtuosity. The Carl Palmer Band features Carl Palmer on drums and percussion, Paul Bielatowicz on guitar and Stuart Clayton on bass. The power trio will serve up an all-instrumental show, entitled "Carl Palmer Celebrates The Music of ELP".
The tour, which will begin in late May and continue through early July will cross Canada and the United States. Carl Palmer says: "I am very excited to be returning to North America to see and play for the many loyal fans I have come to know over the years", says Palmer, who announced his tour this week from Europe where Palmer has been touring since 2002. “This is a trio, which ELP also was, but we have replaced the keyboards with some very powerful guitar interpretations of that classic music. Although ELP had a lot of vocal hit songs, we were really about musicianship and conveying the spectrum of emotions through our instruments. Many of the classic elements of these songs remain, but they have been updated and reinterpreted through my new band". Among the songs featured in the show are: Tarkus, Fanfare For The Common Man, and Hoedown.
The show will begin at 9:00 PM and doors open at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available for $39.50 (plus taxes and service charges) through TicketPro at www.ticketpro.ca, or by calling 514-908-9090. A Unicorn Digital presentation.
A new progressive music festival in Montreal: Le Festival des Musiques Progressives de Montréal (FMPM)
It has long been the dream of many Montrealers to have a progressive music festival of their own right here..., it is now a reality!
UNICORN DIGITAL is proud to be associated with Prog Quebec for the presentation of the first Montreal Progressive Rock Festival.
Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16 2006 at the Gesù - Centre de Créativité (1200 De Bleury Street, Montreal, QC), get ready for the First Annual Edition of Le Festival des Musiques Progressives de Montréal!
The featured artists during this two-day festival will be: Miriodor, Jérôme Langlois (of Maneige), Kaos Moon, Karcius, Hatfield and the North and Echolyn.
Tickets will be put on sale Saturday, April 1st at 10:00 AM. Regular tickets will be $80(CAN)and special Gold tickets* will be $130 (CAN). Regular tickets will be available through the ProgQuébec website, as well as from Admission. Gold tickets will be available exclusively from the ProgQuébec
FMPM's goal is to work closely with Quebec artists, promoters and passionate fans to create a friendly, engaging event that will enrich the progressive music scene, by exposing more local artists to more fans, and enabling deeper and more lasting connections to be made.
There will be a host of activities surrounding the festival, including a pre-show on Thursday September 14 featuring Hamadryad. The festival's official website is now online and includes all you want to know about this great new festival. www.fmpm.net
In addition of helping grow the progressive musical scene in Quebec and helping Quebec artists gain international recognition, establishing a stable festival in Montreal will allow more opportunities for bands outside Quebec to come here to perform. This will create a stronger local scene for prog bands touring Quebec outside of the FMPM, and will create a larger base in Quebec of people who are aware of the entire current prog scene and festival circuit (NEARFest, ProgDay, RoSFest, BajaProg, etc.).
* Gold tickets will be available in very limited quantities (78) and carry many advantages: they entitle you to the seats closest to the stage (the first six row), they also entitle to the special aftershow "Artists VIP Party" on day one, and the "Quebec's Progressive Pionners Symposium" on day two, and perhaps most importantly, contribute financially to the festival in order to ensure future events and permit FMPM to provide such a great selection of local and international artist for the 2006 edition and future events.
And of course, keep an eye on this site for the latest word on FMPM!
MARTIN MAHEUX CIRCLE NEW CD "SIBYLLE" TO BE RELEASED MARCH 29, 2006
Martin Maheux Circle’s new CD “Sibylle” will be released March 29, 2006.
Prog fusion drum wizard Martin Maheux (of the group Spaced Out) cordially invites you to the launch party of his latest album with the Martin Maheux Circle, Wednesday, March 29 2006 at Le Petit Medley (6206 St-Hubert Street, Montreal).
The new cd, entitled "Sibylle", combines elements of jazz fusion, chamber music, progressive and features a jazz quartet and a string quartet with two cellos. The Martin Maheux Circle is composed of David Carbonneau on the trumpet, Éric St-Jean on the piano, Frédéric Grenier on the double bass, Martine Gaumond on violin, Sarah Ouellet on the alto, Sophie Coderre and Catherine Lesaulnier on the cello and Martin Maheux onm drums. Tickets are $10.50 and are available through Unicorn Digital Concerts and will also be available at the door on the day of the show.
His first solo effort, "Physics of Light" also got good reviews from critics around the globe. His musicianship and his composing skills were well received.
With that in mind, Martin has gone back into the studio and recorded his 2nd solo album which will be released in the spring of 2006. Eight musicians displayed their skills on this record that features a jazz quartet and a string quartet with two cellos. This innovative fusion is the result of Martin's attraction to certain chamber music composers and his ever growing love for jazz. Ideas for his 3rd album are already flowing and they are of a style that remains just as unconventional.
Martin Maheux Circle’s new CD “Sibylle” will be released in march 2006.
KARCIUS LAUNCHES SPHERE CD
The guys from Karcius know how to put on a show, and yesterday, March 4 at La Place à Côté, did they ever! An impressive crowd gathered for this great show, celebrating the re-release of the remastered version of their first CD, Sphère (and a splendid job it is, a vast improvement from their original release).
Karcius is composed of Thomas Brodeur on drums, Simon L'Espérance on guitars, Mingan Sauriol on the keys and Dominique Blouin on bass, a great group, getting more and more skillful and confident every time I see them. The guys were pumped-up and ready to give it all, and their performance began around 10:00 PM in front of an audience of over 100. Their set was wildly different from their recent concerts, with cool medleys and re-arranged versions of their material.
It began with a blistering medley of Kunidé with parts of Evolution, followed by a particularly intense version of Liquid Meat, an abridged version of Lunatik consisting of Highway To The Moon, Back To Earth and 1111, and ending the first set with Labyrinthe. After a 20 min. break, the second set started with a mighty drum solo from our pal Thomas, mixed with Synapse, followed by a few tracks from their soon-to-be-released second album, including Hypothèse A, Destination, A014 and finishing their show with their classic Absolute Decadence. The crowd roared with pleasure, requesting more, and the gentlemen from Karcius offered us for the encore another track from theit next CD, the very muscular Tunnel. Another masterful performance that blew everyone away, Mingan was terrific and very expressive on the keyboards, jumping up and down enthusiastically, Dom was wicked on bass, with red-hot riffs, Thomas gave a sublime performance, just one of the most intense, combative drummers I have seen in a long time, and Simon was just spot on with wild riffs, great solos and zany new sound effects.
A cool, young, talented band that successfully bridged the generational and musical gaps, combining brilliantly jazz fusion, hard rock and progressive, and appealing to audiences of all generations. That's entertainment!
